OOPS!
In our issue of October 13, we
stated in a Sports Information
release that Cathy Wall was the
first athlete from AC, male or
female to sign a professional
contract. However, during the
past month of July, Tim Bardin
signed a professional contract to
play with the Rocky Mount
Pines of the Carolina League, a
Class A minor league. Bardin
starred for AC at first base for
four years before being signed
by the Pines. Bardin will be
attempting to sign another con
tract at spring training starting
February 21, where he will be
working out with the St. Louis
Cardinials in St. Petersburg,
Florida. We regret this error,
and hope that this time we are
correct. However, Wall is the
first athlete to sign with a Major
League team.

WIISON - Elon broke open a
,-lose game midway in the
second half and held off AC
rallies the rest of the way to post
a 68-60 CIAC and District 26
victory over the Bulldogs Satur
day night.
Elon was paced by the
double-figure scoring of their
starting line-up, Elon overcame
a 39-36 deficit by scoring eight
een of the next twenty-four
points to build a comfortable
54-45 lead, their largest of the
evening behind the play of John
Motley and Dave Mantiply, both
who contributed six points in the
drive, for the game Motley
tallied 14 points, and Mantiply
also added 14. Other double-fig
ure scorers for the Fighting
Christians were Drew Van Horn
with 17, Lee Allison with 11, and
Greg Dawson with 10. The
Bulldogs were led in scoring by
William Bogues with 19, James
Leggett with 14, and Rick
Mobley with 10.
The Bulldogs rallied from a
30-27 halftime deficit to move
ahead 39-36 early in the second
half after Rick Mobley and
James Leggett got out of the
gates quickly, but Elon settled
down and pulled ahead for
keeps, and salted the game
away at the free throw line.
Elon kept AC guessing
throughout most of the contest,
by setting Mantiply up for
outside jumpers from the corner
for most of the game, and when
Mantiply was shut off. then
Allison or Van Horn would drive
the lane for easy layups. Only at
the start of the second half were
the Bulldogs able to contain all
three individuals, as Leggett
and Mobley combined for ten of
the first twelve ACpoints of the
half. Elon moved to 2-2 in the
CIAC, 3-2 in the District, and
5-4 overall. AC fell to 1-2 in
CIAC action, 2-3 in the District
26 warfares, and 4-5 overall.
Atlantic Christian led by as
many as four in the first half,
but the Fighting Christians used
a balance scoring attack to move
up by halftime, despite the fact
they did not take a trip to the
free throw line in the first half,
as the Bulldogs committed just
two fouls.
The Bulldogs will take a two
week break, returning to action
on January 2 and 3 in the
Sertoma Invitational at Green
