Craddock, Pro fessor of Preaching and New Testament at the Candler School of Theology, Emory University, delivered the second of the Thedford G. and Woodrow W. Sprinkle Lectures at Atlantic Christian College, on March 17-18. His appearance was un der the auspices of the ACC Department of Religion and Philosophy. The Sprinkle Lectures were initiated through an endowed Members Inducted Bv Jayne Peacock On Tuesday, March 2, 1982, Alpha Chi National Honor Society, North Carolina Gamma Chapter of Atlantic Christian College, held its annual induction banquet and ceremony in Hardy Alumni Hall. Dr. and Mrs. Mark Davis and Mrs. Harold Doster, as well as many parents and friends attended to honor this year’s inductees. Dr. Allan Sharp was the guest speaker for this event, and his wife attended the banquet with him. An induction ceremony followed the banquet with music provided by Patricia Tessnear and Araina Gardner, both graduates of ACC and Alpha Chi Alumni. Alpha Chi is an honor society for junior and senior students of all majors with a grade point average of 3.5 and above at Atlantic Qiristian, and who exhibit exemplary character and academic achievement. The officers of Alpha Chi send out invitations to eligible students, collect dues, and plan the induction ceremony. The 1981- 1982 officers are: Bobby Gardner, president; John Henderson, vice- president; Tim Browning, treasurer; and Jayne Peacock, secretary. The theme of Craddock's lectures was "Ministry in Free dom.” All lectures were held in Howard Chapel. His first lecture, entitled “Whether I Come to You or Am Absent” (The Minister and the Church), was held Wednesday, March 17. Following the lecture there was a reception in the Faculty/Staff House honoring Craddock. The second lecture entitled "Whether I Live or Die” (The Minister and the World), was held Thursday morning. The concluding lecture, held Thurs- |day afternoon, was entitled “Whether in Abundance or in Want” (The Minister and Things). Craddock received the B.A. degree from Johnson Bible Col lege, the B.D. degree from Phillips University, and the P1\,D. degree from Vanderbilt University. An ordained minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Craddock has served pastorates in Tennessee and Oklahoma. He has served on the General Board and Administra tive Committee of the Christian Church and on the Commission on Theology of the Council on Christian Unity. He is one of two Disciples’ delegates on The ology Commission of the North American Council of Reformed Churches and serves on the / Task Force on Ministry for the / Christian Church. Craddock is a / member of the Association of Disciples for Theological Dis cussion and the Society of Biblical Literature. In addition to preaching and teaching widely at church as semblies and ministers’ con ferences, Craddock has served as guest professor at other seminaries. He has delivered the Lyman Beecher Lectures at Yale, the Scott Lectures at Qaremont School of Theology, the Adams Lectures at South eastern Baptist Seminary and the Schaff Lectures at Pitts burgh Theological Seminary. (Photo by Jeff MacLennan) Students to Direct The efforts of five student directors, two student design ers, and a host of actors and actresses will be on display in Howard Chapel, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 30 and 31, at 8 p.m. Tuesday night’s bill includes three comedies. Jessie Pierce has chosen to direct "The Marriage Proposal” by Anton Chekhov. In this classic farce, a wealthy hypochondriac works up the nerve to propose to the local farmer’s daughter. Star ring are David Cash, Chris Coats and Randy Craig. Robert Worton will direct the parody "If Men Played Cards As Women Do” by the world- famous comic playwright George S. Kauffman. The cast includes Steve Ballentine, Robbie Gray, Hugh Johnston and Alan Winstead. The final play on Tuesday is another Chekhov play, "The Boor.” Alan Winstead directs this farce about a confirmed bachelor who meets his match in a mournful widow. The cast includes Becca Culpepper, Stephen Gray, Hugh Johnston, Mac McKee and Kevin Rouse. All three of these plays are being designed by Gilda Gaskill. The two plays to be presented on Wednesday night might be called dark comedies. Frank Allen Silverthorne who is direct ing "The Golden Fleece” by A.R. Gurney Jr., calls it "a tragic comedy about modem marriage.” Set against the background of the legend of Jason and Medea, a modern couple discovers that their own relationship is not as sturdy as they thought. As the finale of the evening. Bob Poole is directing Harold Pinter’s "The Lover.” a play "of sexual fantasies.” The characters Sarah and Richard, played by Patti Fahling and Scott Robertson, find their way to a fuller relationship because of the events depicted in the play. Steve Ballentine appears as John. Both of these plays are being designed by Jessie Pierce. The five plays will give audi ences the chance to see many different styles of theater. Curtain time is 8 p.m. for two evenings of one-act plays in Howard Chapel, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 30 and 31.
