INSPECTION AND CONTROL Raleigh Waldrop Holland Corn From day to day we are reminded that winter is just around the corner, by the cool mornings and the colors of the leaves, etc. Most of the boys have already purchased their winter’s sup ply of coal or other fuel. Conversation at this season of year seems to be ballgames. The ones who have TV sets must be lucky because they can replay the games from beginning to end. Just ask George Love for a play by play description. Buvee’s young son, Melvin, had the misfortune to break his collar bone while playing at school on October 5th. We wish for him a speedy recovery. . Two of our fellow-workers have joined Uncle Sams fighting forces. Price is in the Air Force in Texas and Pete Wright is leaving October 15 th. Tom McCormack has sold his home in Bre vard and bought a place in Etowah. Tom says it’s nice to live in town, but he still likes the country. If you have noticed Mary Sue Jennings’ nice tan, it’s one of those from Daytona Beach, Flor ida. Mary Sue says she enjoys her vacation in the "Land of Sunshine”. Blanche Jones and her husband head the list with new cars this time. They have a new Chevrolet. Rastus Smith has traded for a 1947 Chevrolet, he says it runs as good as a new one. The boys on "C” shift are wondering about Rusty Carland and "Irene”. The other night when Rusty drove his car to work, then rode the bus home, they couldn’t understand what was on Rusty’s mind, but after riding to the foot ball game and back in his company, they say it’s easy to understand, since he kept singing "Good Night Irene” on the way back. We are happy to welcome to our Department the following new. men: William Byrd, Richard Landreth, Phillip York, Robert Powell, Spurgeon Ashe and Bruce Smith. We hope all of you will enjoy being a part of the "Ecusta family” as much as we do. Earl Hall hasn’t quite got it figured out yet, but he’ll just about break even on his new baby. Earl says he’ll save on income tax, but CAFETERIA AND CANTEEN By Anne Kitchen Taking vacations this month: Arthur Bell, Kenneth Barton, Henry Whitmire and Divola Nicholson. We are sorry Valory Carter is in the Hospital. We hope for him a speedy recovery. James Avery was out of work a few days as a result of an injury received at home. We welcome our new janitor, David Norman, to the Cafeteria. A much bandaged man walked into a hospital. He was asked his name and then, "Are you mar ried?” "No,” he said, "I was knocked down by an automobile.” the cost of cigars ate up the profit. Earl, the boys enjoyed their smoker. "Jake” Hollis reports having fresh meat—Jake got three squirrels on his first hunt of the sea son. Seems that Ralph Brown has had lots of ex perience squirrel hunting this season. He went three days recently and "bagged” four squirrels each day but on the third day when he returned to his car, he found the "bumpers” on his car had fallen off. A close friend of his says that there were so many squirrels where Ralph hunts that the squirrels "chewed the bumpers” from his car. Ralph says at least he does take his car out of the garage. Holland Corn won first place in the W. N. C. Contest on the small mouth bass he caught in Lake Sapphire. Charlie Cox and Melvin Atkinson recently motored to Johnson City, Tennessee. While there Melvin visited with an old Navy buddy. We boys on "C” Shift entertained with a Wiener roast at Camp Sapphire, October 12, in honor of "Pete” Wright who is leaving for service and Roy Head, "Rusty” Carland, Preston McCrary and Hershel Galloway who will be leaving soon to learn about cellophane. We are happy to have Ellen McFarland in our department.
