INBPECTIDN Department Wins Safety Award The second department to operate over ONE MILLION manhours without a lost time accident, received recognition on May 25 th when Mr. R. G. Deyton presented a GREEN CROSS SAFETY FLAG to R. L. Hooper, who accepted the flag in behalf of the four shifts in the Inspection Depart ment. This department with an average personnel of 121, experienced its last lost time accident on April 3, 1947, and through May 24, 1951, had ac cumulated 1,031,000 manhours. This record has only been surpassed by Endless Belt Corporation, who received the same type flag on April 13, 1951 for having gone L347,000 manhours with out a lost time accident. In making the presentation, Mr. Deyton stated that the Company was proud to recognize a job well done, and that such recognition would be given all departments who operated over one million hours without a lost time accident. He paid tribute to the entire personnel of the depart ment for their manifested cooperation in the acci dent prevention program and the very fine record they had established, and said he hoped that this record would be an incentive to all other depart ments throughout the plant. Mr. Deyton stated that not only would the employees reap great dividends through follow ing safe practices and remaining accident-free, but that this would eliminate undue suffering ’ and worry on the part of their families as well. Stressing the fact that twice as many deaths re sult from accidents in the home each year as com pared wjth those in industry, he urged that every individual practice self-preservation OFF THE JOB too, keeping foremost in their minds at all times, that the person who gets hurt is always the greatest loser. Shown at the extreme right in the above picture is R. E. Matthews who was formerly Director of Inspection and Control, and who played an im portant part in helping establish the above record.
