FINISHING By Willoree Garland Well here another month has rolled around, and win- ^ ter has finally come. With the sign of cold weather, I sweaters and coats are again I emerging from moth-balls. I First of all, we wish to ^ congratulate Ralph Patterson on winning first prize, at the Halloween Carnival at Rosman. From Becky’s report he must have been a sight worth seeing. Willie Dockins, Dot McCrary, Willoree Garland, and Robert Smith also took in Halloween by dressing up. Robert must have really made a good- looking girl, since a man wanted to kiss him. We extend our deepest sympathy to Helen Jo Manley, on the death of her grandfather. Ralph Holcombe has been transferred to the Maintenance dept. We sure will miss you, Ralph. Wilma Henson, Willie Dockins, and Lewis Meece attended the Clemson-Wake Forest game, all reported a grand time. We extend a welcome to James Adcock, and hope he will enjoy working with us. The apples Waddell Walker brought us, sure were good. He can bring more anytime. We won der why Waddell said, it took a two dollar bill to shine his shoes. Ray Keener and James McCall must have se crets they talk about. Gould it be, they have some thing in common. We missed Ruby Rigdon the two weeks the Lab borrowed her and are glad to have her back. "A" SHIFT FINISHING By W. N. Stroup, Jr. Johnny Michal, Jr., roll carrier, reports he is getting married this month. Wonder who the lucky girl is.? Frank Thompson came back to work Wed. 7, after being out for a short time. He has taken over the duties of Service operator. Earl Fulbright seldom lets a bad roll slip by him, but when he does, he has a perfect alibi. His hair falls down over his face. For all who are interested. Cliff Smith (one of the Smith boys) does not propose to Jo Ann Mc Clure every morning. He’s only plugging in her adding machine. For Sale! One 1936 Ford with a Rolls-Royce motor. See J. B. Holden. A good record, "A” Shift has contributed 100% to the Harry H. Straus hospital fund. Hope you never have to use it, but if you do. Theer’ tis’. Here is a tip. Being right part of the time is not enough. A stopped clock is right twice a day. "B" SHIFT FINISHING By Lindy McGowan There are quite a few boys singing the "1-A” Blues now on our shift. As the saying goes they will soon join the other "dog-faces”. Those that are singing the blues are Harold Donaldson, Bill Pressley, Lindly McGowan, Bill Phipps, and Jack Chapman. If you coon-hunters want to see a good coon dog just look up Bill Phipps, he’s got the best. If you want an example of how good he is, here it is: The story goes that Bill was out hunting one night with his dog, when the dog treed a coon in an oak tree and just a little further away was an other coon in a maple tree. Yep, you guessed it, that dog kept both of those coons treed by run ning from one tree to another until Bill got there. So there is proof that he has the best in the busi ness. Peck Powell must be doing alright here be cause you see him with a new car nearly every week, or is it that you can’t find the right one to suit you. Don’t get "burnt” trading. Speaking of new cars, have you seen Richard Clark’s new Ford. Dick the fellows have been wondering why you don’t drive it to work. You know they are made to ride in as well as to look at. If this damp weather that we have been hav ing gets you down because your car gets stuck, be smart like Charlie Clark. He was seen during our last wet spell driving his tractor to the bus stop. His car got stuck too. In our want ad column this month, L. K. Moore, our assistant inspector, wants a nice big high chair with a big soft cushion in it. Joe Wild says he needs a pair of skates so he can keep all the permanent reject rolls off the inspectors table. John Walson will soon join the soup clan. Again this month we add another member to our shift. He is Luther Norton. He comes to us from the "Highland Inn” in Cashiers, N. C. His home is at Gullowhee, N. C. We hope you find working with us very enjoyable. Beginning Monday, November 12, Ralph Mann will be our new inspector. He is being transferred from the Lab. He is replacing Tom Dixon who is going on day shift duties. We hope that Ralph can tolerate us. A Nose—A part of the body that shines, smells, snubs, snoops and sneezes.
