MAINTENANCE By George Ryder March is the time when all optomists expect an Income Tax Refund. Boyd Lyday bought a new truck with his ’50 tax refund. We have received word i ^ /“"V that Johnny Michael is now ' ' in the Navy. At present he is in Boot Camp at San Diego. Hope you don’t get sea sick Johnny. In the Want Ad Department, Carroll Bragg has asked that we help find him a chauffeur for his new Cadillac. John Baumgarner has asked that all persons be notified that he is no longer responsible for George Sexton’s debts, either public or private. Johnnie Harris has had a far away "Black Gnat” look in his eyes lately. Doesn’t he get enough fish in the cafeteria? We were very sorry to learn of the death of Otis Guice’s father. I think that Joseph Hinkle, Tom Poor and James Gevedon look much better now that they are no longer on shifts. Leroy Mills was trying desperately to sell tickets to a dance last month. Wonder why? Bill Dougherty is the envy of the entire depart ment. He left in the middle of February for a construction job in San Salvidore. We hated to lose him, but just think, all that sunshine and no Income Tax! There are some new and interesting nicknames in the department. Here are a few: Budgie Fraser—"Lunkenheimer” Richard Parris—"Night Owl” Charles Link—"Tagger” Willard Sammis—"Coke Pen” Bill Dougherty—"Pedro” Herbert Greene—"Sleepy” The Eagle, which appears on the dollar bill, is not the greatest bird of all. The greatest bird is the stork, which brings tax exemptions! "Isn’t it strange that princes and kings And Clowns that caper in sawdust rings And men folk like you and me Are builders for eternity? "To each is given a bag of tools, A shapeless mass and a book of rules. And each must make, ere life is flown, A stumbling block or a stepping stone.” The Boy Scouts of America have honored 2,861 of its members since 1910 for saving the lives of others. CASTING By Henry Heatherly Henry McCormick’s wife has been visiting in Home stead Florida this month and Henry is planning to drive down after her on his long week end. Hope you have a nice trip, but don’t let that Florida sunshine give you spring fever. Joe Younghusband said that his father-in-law from Clinton is coming to spend two or three months with him. I know that he will enjoy this fine weather that we are having. Johnny Thomas’s mother has been very ill and he was called away from work last week. We hope that she has recovered by now. John Ashe spent his vacation in Franklin, N. C., and he also announces the birth of a son, Charles Wayne. The youngster arrived on January 23, weighing 5 lbs. at the Angel Hospital in Frank lin. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Baker announced the ar rival of a son, Raymond Elmer weighing 10 lbs. on February 2, at the Brevard Hospital. Shift workers are having trouble sleeping while on third shift? It doesn’t bother Bob Eason. He says he just takes a glass of warm milk before go ing to bed and sleeps like a baby. J. B. McCall and Elmo McCall had a little acci dent while going home the other night. Both cars were damaged but no one was hurt. I hear that Conley McKinnish is raising several calves and that he is looking for some goat milk to feed the calves. POWER By Howell Medford Thomas Evans took advan tage of his days off to visit his father who lives in Ala bama. He reported a good trip and said his father was feeling fine. Tom took his family along with him. Foy Guice says that as far as he knows. Bob Duckworth is the first fellow to "mooch” for his lunch. The way he reported it one would think Bob did it on purpose, but the truth of the matter is that Bob just forgot to pay for his lunch until he had eaten it. Bob, however, did report it. 1 wonder if Foy believes it. Speaking of good things—it’s funny but Chan- don Ashworth can buy the best ice cream. See V. Lominac of the Turbine Room for proof. Bill Lowery says the closer a man is with his money the better the ice cream. We believe Clarence Allison is in good stand-
