ARCHERY CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES AT CAMP STRAUS The 1952 North Carolina Archery Champion ship matches were held at Camp Straus on July 19 and 20. This was the first meet at our recre ation area, and most of the 50 contestants ex pressed a desire to return for future matches. O. K. Smathers of the Electric Shop retained his state crown, as he did in the Southeastern matches at Memphis, Tennessee on July 5. Other local winners were: Ruth Harding of Cellophane Office, winner of the Wand and second place win ner of the Women’s sight division; Harry Ballard, Jr., son of Harry Ballard of the Electric Shop, win ner of the intermediate division; Malinda Bangs, daughter of W. C. Bangs of the Cafeteria, second place in the Intermediate division; John Mc Darris, son of Ken McDarris of Inspection, third place winner in the intermediate division; and Bill Bangs, third place winner in the Clout. Officers for 1953 were elected at a business meeting following the meet. They are. President, O. K. Smathers of Brevard, Vice Pres., Al Camack of Burlington, and Sec. and Treas., Morris Cable of Asheville. Action in the 1952 State Archery Championship Matches. 13
