MILL OFFICE By Margaret Head CAFETERIA AND CANTEEN By Anne Kitchen I can’t forget about that fantastic dream I had the other night about the Mill Office. I dreamed that; "Speedy” Jones and Marcy Newell were making prepar ations to attend the Demo cratic National Convention as delegates pledged to Harry S. Truman. Ed Loftis was already there as he was State Chairman. At a recent meeting of the Medical Association, Charlcie Smith walked away with the title "Mrs. Health of 1952”. Necia Eason lived on a farm, getting up at 5:00 A. M., feeding chickens, rabbits and dogs, and feeding Bob hot biscuits for breakfast before coming to work at 8:00 A. M. Tom Ramsay attended the U. S. C. - Clemson game on Fair Day and was heard rootin’ for the Gamecocks. Hank Newbury was smoking a cigar in the Fibre Warehouse while lifting, by himself, a 55 gallon drum of gasoline without his safety shoes or goggles on. Lee Bauer poisoned all his boxers by feeding them chlorophyl so he switched over to persian cats. Fred Stroup made a very impressive silhouette against the sunset, playing leap-frog. Ralph Palmer substituted for Pan-Handle Pete, the one-man band, in the Sylvan Valley Folk Fes tival. A1 Ream is so dissatisfied with his present liv ing quarters that he’s decided to build a new house. We had two authors in our midst: Margaret Head had just published "How to Use Will Power and Lose Weight”, and Lillian Zachary just com pleted "How to Stay Calm and Add Poundage.” Fritz Merrill had an opportunity to attend the World Series but since he just didn’t care for that sort of thing, decided to stay home and play checkers instead. Cheatam Nelson was bitten by a boa constrict or while on the local golf course. After he had been rushed to the hospital and examined, the doctor told him it was a grasshopper scratch. Roy Jarvis returned from a day of fishing with a large string of bass, averaging 30” in length and 15 lbs., in weight, then would not tell anyone how, when or where he had made the large catch. Jerry Mann, having decided that there is no possibility of a fire at Ecusta, had given away all of our extinguishers and other fire fighting equipment, furthermore, had disconnected all the fire alarm boxes because they were entirely too noisy. Everybody back to work after they have enjoyed a va cation and the nice 4th of July Picnic. Looks as tho everyone from our department has been on a vacation. Walter Perkin motored up to West Virginia and spent a week visiting points of interest and old friends. Mildred Baumgardner spent her week at home enjoying the company of her chil dren. Charlie Grr went fishing, but can’t report much of a catch. Robert Kaiser visited friends at Hendersonville. Joyce Bowen spent a quiet week at Brevard. Clay Edwards and wife spent the week in Florida trying to find a cool place. Better stay in the mountains. Clay. Mrs. Ethel Batson has gone to Carolina Beach. Better sure have a sun tan, Ethel. Joe Duckworth worked in his wife’s garden. We saw Divola Nicholson at the beach enjoying the wonderful sunshine, Aurthon Thom as at Selica, resting in the shade, and William Glaze, visiting his brother in Asheville. Guess the stork doesn’t bring anymore babies. He has left them all at the homes of Cafeteria employees. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Bradley wel comed to their home a fine baby girl. Reeves Ricker is the proud papa of a boy. Glenn New ton didn’t care, so his was a boy. Walter Robin son’s was a girl. Paul Patterson is spending (2) two weeks in reserve training at Columbia, S. C. William Thompson is on a two weeks leave on account of injuries he received in a car wreck. We extend our deepest sympathy to Divola Nicholson on the death of her grandmother. ELECTROCHEMICAL By Alfred Galloway After an absence of several weeks, due to an accident, Gene Stepp has returned to work. It sure is good to see him around. Gerald Fowler and family spent a week’s vacation in Ohio visiting relatives. Since his return, he has been to the hospital for an op eration. We hear he is well on the way to recov ery. Hope he’ll be back to work soon. A1 Reams and family has just returned from a visit with his parents in Penn. He reports an en joyable vacation. Most all the boys have been telling big fish tales, but we haven’t seen the fish yet. 19
