OFFICE BITS By Alex Duris Space alloted to the Office Bits column is the factor which determines how many news items can be published. Very often the number of news bits exceeds the avail able space and the person editing has no choice but to leave some out. The above is in explanation, if you have wondered, why items do not sometimes appear after you have been asked for a news bit. Mrs. Conchita York is the new young lady in the Order-Invoicing Dept. She at one time lived in Canton, N. C., but is now a resident of Bre vard. We are glad to have you with us Conchita, and hope you will make yourself at home. Mary Armfield enjoyed a vacation at Myrtle Beach, swimming in the surf and acquiring a sun tan. Too bad these nice vacations end so quickly! Mr. Francis Field has been out for a spell after a visit to the hospital. We understand that he is doing nicely and hope to see him back ere this column goes to press! Ola Gooch journeyed to her old home town— Huntsville, Alabama, where she spent her vacation and renewed old acquaintances. Those hometowns do have a way of changing after you leave them a while with so much of the old gone and so much of the new added! Dean Black made like a life guard at Myrtle Beach, what with that deep sun tan he is sporting The young lady shown above is Sarah Alice Smith, eleven year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom C. Smith, Asheville. Tom is employed in Main Office. Juanita, fifteen months old, and Dickie, five years old, are the children of Mr. and Mrs. Richard D. Roberts of Brevard. Their father is employed in the Main Office. around after his vacation! Hazel Reece vacationed at Fontana Dam re cently. She said she caught three "big uns,” and not long after she was out sick three days. Hazel must have over worked herself catching those three big trout! Mrs. Wayburn Houch, the former Miss Colene Baumgarner, was married on June 6. Congratula tions to you in regard to this happy step, and may you find no difficulty in setting up a grocery budget! We had no other June brides but the air is heavy with talk that one or two others who are planning similar steps later. William Hannan took a part time job this year during his vacation. He was teaching his children how to swim. We bet Bill enjoyed the role of in structor even though he might not let on. Harvey Souther selected Washington, D. C. for his vacation spot and spent his entire time just sightseeing, and still only seeing but a very small portion of all that is to be seen in Washington. Hicks and L. C. Poor enjoyed a quiet home va cation this year—mostly relaxing. The truth of the matter is that this type of vacation is the only kind guaranteed ^to give you rest. The. others wear you out! Charley Cook was another who enjoyed a vaca tion during that awful heat wave in June. We hope that you found means of keeping cool and refreshed! As this is being jotted down, we are enjoying a welcome interlude in the weather. Down in the low fifties, with blankets and sweaters in order! Lets remember this when old Sol bears down on us later and reflect on how cool it has been. Good thing too that it is cool, as politics and the conventions are really warming things up! "No man is worth his salt who is not ready at all times to risk his body, to risk his well-being to risk his life, in a great cause.” —Theodore Roosevelt 20
