ECUSTA WINS AS BASEBALL SEASON OPENS Ecusta picked up single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to defeat Beacon Mills 2-1 as both teams opened their Industrial League baseball seasons on April 15. The game was limited to seven innings by agreement. Beacon could solve the slants of Bill Byrd for only three hits v^hile Ecusta reached Bill Anders for five. Anders fanned nine and Byrd whiffed eight. Ecusta scored in the fourth when Tiger singled Johnson home from second. The winning run in the fifth was the result of bunched singles by Byrd, Drake, Miller and Johnson. Gary Carter’s double scored Anders to give Beacon its only run. Carter got two of the three Beacon hits.
