R. F. Bennett R. S. Heller PLANS FOR NEW CELLOPHANE PLANT AND PERSONNEL CHANCES ANNOUNCED John M. Olin, President of Olin Industries, Inc., on March 22 announced plans for the erection of a new cellophane plant, to be located on the Wa bash River at Kern, Indiana. It is estimated that the new plant will double the productive capacity of Olin Cellophane. Mr. Olin pointed out that with plants at Kern and Pisgah Forest, Olin Cellophane’s ability to serve the rapidly growing demand for transpar ent packaging material will be greatly improved. The Kern plant will be designed and construct ed by E. I. Du Pont de Nemours & Company under the terms of a contract made in November 1949, whereby Olin purchased the right to use Du Pont cellophane patents and technical information and secured Du Pont’s agreement to design and con struct two cellophane plants, of which the Kern plant will be the second. Engineering work for the new plant is already underway and actual construction will begin soon. The new plant is expected to employ approximate ly 600 persons. Melton L. Herzog, General Manager of the Film Division, reported several personnel changes which were effective April 1, and which resulted from the announcement of the new cellophane plant. Edward L. Lynn, who has been both Production Manager and Acting Plant Manager, has been re lieved of the latter duties. As Production Man ager he will be responsible for film production at R. V. Pierce W. F.
