May 25, 1957 THE CLARION PAGE FIVE CLUB CAPERS BY CHARLES HILBERS Parting is such sweet sorrow? ALPHA BETA GAMMA If you’ve never seen the Grove Park Inn, then be sure to see It and the Biltmore House the next time you’re in Ashe'ville. (Even if you have seen the Biltmore House, its worth seeing again.) The Inn was convention headqjuarters for the Alpha Beta Gamma’s national con- flab last Saturday, May 11th. The Erevard chapter left the campus at eight o’clock Saturday morning and enjoyed the many activities planned for the group by the Ashe ville Biltmore chapter. Some of the Brevard group stayed for the “dance” that was to follow the con vention’s Greek initiation of can didates, but it turned out to be a tea party, at least the band thought they were playing for a tea party, for they played no dancable music, at least to our ears. The conven- tioners from Brevard were; Miss Bobbie Jean Nickelson, advisor; Claudia Ramsay; Barbara Davis; John Huggins, president - elect; Phil Winchester; Craig Garen; Jerry Smith, Vice President; Len- nis MoiTison, who was initiated at the convention; Mack Pasmore; Laney Funderburk; and yours tru ly. BSU The new officers for the Baptist j Student union are: president, Er-1 vin Dendy; vice president, Don Dills; vies president in charge of social activities, Ben Cassel, sec retary-treasurer, Pat Mintz; pro gram chairman, Betty Lawrence. Don Dills and Ervin Dendy attend ed a planning session in Sanford, North Carolina, where they pick ed up a lot of good ideas, which the club plans to put into effect next year. MASQUERS The Masquers will have as its officers next year Clara Pruitt, president; Benny Martin, vice president; Mary Lou Parker, secre tary; and Grace Hunter business productions next year. There is ev en rumor that a musical is forth coming for the enjoyment of the Phi Theta Kappa national conven tion which meets here next year. Good going and good luck Mas quers! NEMOS • DELPHIAN These two clubs had a joint supper meeting last night for a good-iby party. The Mnemosyneans new officers ;:re: president, Beverly Ussury; vice president, Pat Adkins; secre- t;u"y-treasurer, Sylvia Parker. New officers of the Delphians are: president, Gary Frick; vice- (preaident, Benny Martin; secre tary-treasurer; Laney Funderburk; and sergeant-at-arms, Fred Sigmon. PHI THETA KAPPA Last Monday the Phi Theta Kap pa met and approved the applica tion of five colleges into the fra ternity. If threenfourths of the rest of the chapters across the country do the same, these colleges, includ ing Charlotte Junior College, Char lotte, North Carolina,, will be added to the national chapter roll of the fraternity. At the meeting it was de cided to install the new officers Wednesday evening after supper in our new cafeteria. veterans 1 think everyone enjoyed the May Day dance and we all owe the veterans a hearty vote of thanks. Incidentally, this reporter was sur prised to learn that the veterans themselves did all the art work. Who knew they were toudding _ ar tists? The dance was a great job, fellows and a great success. Their new officers are: presi dent, Ronnie Daniel; vice presi dent, Tom Anderson; secretary- trejsurer, Neil" Howell; social chair man, Paul Lewis. MSF This Sunday President Stamey ■will address the MSF. He will speak in the new auditorium in this last council representative, Nancy Nor ton. ! KAPPA CHI At their retreat in Pisgah Inn on Mount Pisgah the Kappa Chi elect ed officers for next year who are: Mike McClaugherty, president;; Harry Queen, vice president for men; Clara Pruitt, vice president for women; and Claudia Ramsey as secretary-treasurer. On the 23rd the club met in the cafeteria and after supper installed their ofificers in the chapel in the Adminisitration building. Ross Wingo, outgoing president expressed his faith in the club and its officers in his statement, “I am expecting great things in the next few years.” CLIOS euterpeans The Euterpeans met last Tues day night, May 21st, and el«:ted new officers. The two offices that have been filled are: Ann Lively, president, and Judy Elkin, vice president. The rest of the officers come from next year’s freshman class. Audrey Dixon, graduating president of the club, said that she had enjoyed being president and, “The Euterpeans have had a very successful year, and that I hope next year will be even better.” The new president of the Clios is Horace Turner, a capable leader, hailing from Gastonia. Lloyd Hens ley was elected as vice - president .and Lenus Morrison, as secre- j tary-treasurer. The Clios have cre- jated a new office, that of social chairman, which will ibe filled next year. In a prepared statement, Dan “Pigmy” Hendricks commented, “As President of the Clios I have enjoyed very much endeavoring to create a better Cliosophic Society at Brevard. Although we have not excelled extensively, we have had fun and were very well represent ed in the intramural field, winning both the football and basketball 'championships.” Seventy-Four Are meager These budding actors and j meeting of this group. MAIN STREET Located Next To Library CANTERBURY CLUB In an exclusive interview, Tom Anderson told this reporter that the Canterbury club will not elect new officers this year. It is hoped that by waiting until next year to fill these offices, some interest will be aroused in the club by the ris ing freshmen. The club will have a barbecue and go horseback rid ing this Sunday. CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP Janis Smith, president of this clulb has asked that it be announ ced that there WILL be a softball game this Tuesday.
