Dr. Charles Teague, smiled when he spoke. Glad to be back at Brevard eigh teen years after graduating in 1966, he looks forward to staying a long while. Dr. Teague attended High Point College after Brevard, graduating in 1968 with a B.A. in Religion and Philosophy. He earned a Master of Divinity degree at Emory University in 1971. After serving as minister at Avery’s Creek United Methodist Church in Asheville for one year, Dr. Teague was invited to return to High Point as Chaplain of that United Methodist college. “I realized that year how much I enjoyed academic life, par ticularly in small, close-knit col leges like High Point and Brevard,” he said. “Classroom teaching is very satisfying to me.” After several years at High Point, Dr. Teague began to juggle a full teaching load and further graduate work at Emory. In 1982 the University awarded him the Doctor of Ministry degree. A year later, Brevard College’s Chaplain and Professor of Religion, Dr. C. Edward Roy, decided to take an early retire ment, and he immediately thought of his long-time friend and former student. “It’s an honor for me to be following Dr. Roy; his influence on me has extended from my stu dent days to the present,” Dr. Teague said. “He has a concern for everyone, and he has strong academic integrity. It is hard to imagine Brevard College without him.” Dr. Teague, his wife Daune, and his nine-year-old daughter Julie, are living on campus this year while plans are being drawn for a new home in Glen Cannon. While a student at Brevard, Dr. Teague was president of Green Dorm and captain of the Brevard College golf team. He was elected “Mr. Sophomore” by his graduating class. “Brevard College meant a lot to me when I was a student here,” Dr. Teague continued, “and it is still very attractive to me now as a place to live and- work. I love the personal atten tion students can rightfully ex pect here, the community spirit, and “ like all Western Caroli nians who move away to the flatlands for awhile - the moun tains.
