It was very successful in that we were fifth last year and are second this year.” BC Hosts Soccer Tournament by Will Parker Sports Editor Recently during Valentine’s Day weekend Brevard College played host to about eighteen other schools soccer teams who came to take part in the indoor tournament. Baseball Team Works Over Spring Break by Will Parker Sports Editor For a lot of students the highlight of spring semester is Spring Break. While most of us plan trips for home or the beach, those who play baseball plan for a different type of trip all together. Every Spring Break the baseball team plays several away games in Florida during Spring Vacation. So they don’t get to go home unless they live in Florida. Hopefully this year they will be more successful. Last year’s team struggled through the rugged schedule. On March 12, the official beginning of Spring Break, the team plays away at Emmanuel. After a day off they play Lake City on Sunday then Central Florida, North Florida, USC- Salkehatie, and finally Finger Lakes on March 18. After that they have three days until classes resume. Coach Rusty Stroupe said, “Last year’s team didn’t do too well but I think we can play good ball with most of these teams.” Even after they get back they have games to play. The week they return they have two home games against Lenoir and Walters State. The third is away at Louisburg. The rest of the season is also Just as stacked. And when they don’t play they practice. Fortunately things slow down a little bit before the post season. After final exams, when the rest of us have either graduated or gone home or both, the team participates in the Region X Tournament. Coming out of that successfully they play well into the summer. Brevard College Track Team Finishes Season by Will Parker Sports Editor Recently the Brevard College Indoor Track Teams participated in the Clemson Invitational. Overall the team did very well. When asked how he felt the teams were doing Coach Dave Rinker said, “I’m real pleased with how the team is doing. They’ve done real well in spite of all the work we’ve done.” Beside Brevard and Clemson some fourteen other teams participated. They are Appalachian State, Western Carolina, Furman, Florida A & M, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Emory, Anderson South Carolina State, North Carolina A & T, Atlanta Track Club, Florida International, South Alabama, Alabama at Birmingham, and finally the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
