$20 PC game: Amnesia
By Alex McCracken
staff Writer
I had a bud last year that
bet me forty five bucks that I
couldn't finish this game. Not
because it was too difficult, or
because I wouldn't like it, but
that I would be too afraid to
go back in. Amnesia is quite
simply, the scariest game on the
market, and easily the hardest
time I've ever had finishing a
game that i actually enjoyed
playing.
This is a nerve raking,
mind fraking, masterpiece
of psychological horror that
marks the only time a game (or
any movie) has ever made me
scream "Nooooo!" involuntarily
out of a blind, soul crushed
panic.
I'd call amnesia a puzzle
game if you really had to press
me, but it's so much more than
that. It captures perfectly, what
it's like to go crazy. I don't want
to ruin much more.
Suffice to say, you're going
to want to light every damned
candle you can find, and make
sure you know how to get to
a good hiding spot as fast as
you can.
You won't find any guns or
ammo stashed away in crates
and drawers, just flint and lamp
oil, and it's going to have to
be enough for you to fight for
your life.
Just know what you're getting
into with this game (there's a
free demo off of steam.com)
and I promise you'll hear the
game's fabulous disembodied
doggie death rattle s in your ®
dreams.
You're welcome.
