1989 Chowan Opener Chowan's students have the opportunity to put their academic preparation and laboratory experience into practice when they conduct experiments and demonstrations for visiting high school students during the annual Math- Science Day in Camp Hall. Chowan has outstanding academic program Over the years, Chowan College has developed a reputation for its outstanding academic program. High school teachers and counselors, as well as visiting scholars and educators, have viewed the academic approach as one of the college's dominant strengths. The academic strength of Chowan is centered in an experienced, dedicated and able faculty. As friends and guides along the path of learning, the Chowan faculty is dedicated to the goal of personalized, quality education. Seeking to participate closely and interactively in the educational experience, faculty members are available for individual help. The academic departments include: business, English, fine arts, graphic communications, languages, math, religion, science and social science. Some of the new and notable programs are computer information systems, medical illustration, art, photography, printing technology, engineering, forestry, pre-trust management, and pre-athletic training. Chowan, a private. Baptist, two-year residential college, places an emphasis on liberal arts and also offers career education programs. Students may pursue a variety of professional programs and majors by receiving the associate degree offered in their fields. Nearly 90 percent transfer to senior institutions. In addition, Chowan is fully accredited by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as well as holding in a number of and educational membership professional organizations.
