Monday, November 20, 1967 THE DECREg FLOWER POWER by D. B. Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away and already flower orders are beginning to creep in to the campus florist for his perusaL In a recent isaue this glorious newspaper noted the reappearance of “thatplas tic greenhouse”, run by a cer tain Diobolical Botanist. He was hastily making necessary greenhouse refurbishings for the impending cold weather. Of more recent importance to the Wesleyan community is the announcement of a new floral partnership. This partnership is with Jim Clark and the all new and unique. Flowers of Henry II, located atTarrytownMall. This remarkably different florist, he prefers to be called H I., will have a shoppe that will be nothing less than eye-grab- ing. From personal experience, I can say that it certainly be a refreshing and extremely ben eficial addition to the Rocky Mount floral trade. Because of its uniqueness and its plaza location, the shoppe will prob ably be a frequent browsing place for many students and faculty alike. Now, through an arrangement with Jim and H. I., students will be able to apply flower power to its fullest. The Wes leyan community can at any time order almost anything in the way of florist wares and at anytime, and most impor tant, at a collegiate discount of up to 20% off when ordered through Jim. (see advertise ment) The claim of, at anytime, was tried recently when an order was placed at 12:45 one night. South Hall’s frequent visitor to Nash asked for a rush order at 1:15 the same night. “I was naturally surprised but the thoughtfulness ex pressed by orders of this nature is not experienced by as many girls as would like.” Jim went on to explain a possible reason. “The basic problem is that while many many boys would like to express them selves differently now and then, they refuse to share their major medium of ex pression with the florist because of two false as sumptions. Flowers are either not masculine enough or are too expen sive. “In my opinion the sensi tivity and thoughtfulness that can be seen in the flower complement and not detract from the more phy sical ways we reveal our selves to each other. The delicate expressive beauty that is the flower can say so much more than many college students realize.” Whatever Jim’s reason, flower power has definitely in filtrated the Wesleyan campus. Perhaps many Wesleyan girls will be in for a pleasant sur prise this Thanksgiving. Se riously, it would NOT be nice; that means it would. HONOR CODE? Those of you who think Wes leyan is the epitome of virtue and morality, who think that the student body of North Carolina Wesleyan College is above re proach—read no further, this article is not for your eyes or your thoughts. However, if there be any among you who might have the slightest idea that perhaps all the rules and regulations of the college are not adhered to ab solutely, read on, and think on. North Carolina Wesleyan does not have an Honor Code, The Bishop’s Law (page 9) makes some effort at putting a code in print. The three- part code consists of things called “equal and fair treat ment”, “full rights to his prop erty”, and “trust the word of others.” Further, there are the so called aims of the c( 1- lege, an “Espirit de corps”, and even a definition of “Cheat ing and plagiarism.” This is all very well and good if it is followed and supported with conviction. But for those of us who lack the volition nec essary to live according to righteous principles, something more is needed. Why doesn’t North Carolina Wesleyan College have an Honor Code? Are the students so honorable that it is not needed? Are the students here “above” all law breaking? Are the professors and administration willing to ignore or don’t care enough to acknowledge such ac tions on this campus? Cheat ing does exist at this college. Anyone wishing to refute this statement, must either be blind and / or deaf. Not just ordinary “academic” cheating, but cheating in every facit of cam pus life occurs here at Wes leyan. Is this situation not distasteful to the college com munity? Apparently not, for nothing seems to be being done about it at all- Will an honor code work at North Carolina Wesleyan? That is up to you. If you want an honor code, demand one that will work and be effective. Hon or codes can be good imple ments depending upon whether or not the student body obeys or breaks them. Do you want an honor code? Do you think others want an honor code? If so, do something about your wants. No one is going to give you something you don’t de serve, you must earn it for yourself. Perhaps this issue of an honor code will never be brought to you in any form again, perhaps this will be the last time it is mentioned. But don’t count on it. Remember the responsibility of your de cision, and act accordingly. If an honor code is to be established on this campus, may the student body respect it with their minds as well as thier hearts^ GUN CLUB REPORT By Tom Mowbray Do not despair loyal sup porters of a Wesleyan gun club. I have been pressing the matter with the administration and we are now looking for a suitable faculty advisor. As soon as one is found, the first meeting of our group will be called. In the meantime I have writ ten to the National Rifle As sociation for information which might lead to our affiliation with them. There is also the possibility that a field repre sentative will be able to visit our campus and help us to coordinate our movements. Also, I am sure that shoot ing advocate wants to express his disapproval of the cancel lation of next year’s National Matches at Camp Perry. A letter to your congressman might aid in putting pressure on the Pentagon to withdraw their ban. # MEMORIES OF WESLEYAN’S HIT MUSICAL ONCE UPON A MATTRESS INFIRMARY from Page 4 rules other than Bishop’s L. A. W., there is a common understanding as to restric tions, This each of the women considers a definite advantage. There are improvements which could be made. Because the infirmary is at present only a temporary dormitory, no washing machines, towel racks, pay phone, or heat regulators have been installed. The girls may be moved at any time. If you see a female hiking across campus bearing a pack on her back, it will probably be a Spruillian with dirty clothes. Or if you are volun teered to transport suitcases and books and clothes racks to North or Nash, have no fear; Spruill is once again catering to the sick, or being put in cold storage.
