ter and several others.
“We want this to be a fam
ily event and we plan to have
events that will benefit young
sters as well as adults,” Cal
lahan explained. “We want to
instill safety in the minds of
people at a young age so they
will live their lives in a safer
manner.”
One event of interest to
youngsters will be a bicycle
safety exhibit and may include
a bike rodeo.
Also for youngsters will be
several areas for entertainment
including face painting, clowns
and a variety of games.
A dunking booth also is
planned.
“We already have a few
volunteers to be the dunkees,”
she said. “Chuck Allen, Tommy
Bennett, Doug Streetman,
Danny McNair, Van Joyce and
Robert Gates have volun
teered but we have a few oth
ers in mind who might volun
teer as well.
“As to the exhibits, we plan
to cover as many areas of safety
as we can at this event,” Cal
lahan said. “Fire safety, gun
safety, water safety, hazards
around the home including
lawn and garden safety, as well
as lifestyle areas such as drug
abuse and matters like that.”
The event is to begin at 10
a.m. and conclude at 2 p.m.
Free food and drinks (while

drawings for a variety of prizes
will be conducted.
Callahan said all Adams-
Millis employees are invited

“We also need more vol

event,” she added. “A lot of
people already have said they
want to help but we can use a
lot more.”

Hodges won’t forget the 1992 an eight-day fact-finding trip
to Sara Lee plants in France,
Germany and Ireland a few
months ago, it was merely an
inconvenience.
“We picked up a lot of good
ideas that we’re incorporating
into our operations,” Bulman
explained. “The Barnwell plant
is staffed, based on what we
learned over there.”
Bulman and Hodges visited
three sheer hosiery plants -
Dim in France, Pretty Polly in
Ireland and Vatter und Palme
in Germany.
They looked at how knit
ting departments were staffed
as well as how equipment was
set up and how raw materials
were handled.
“They did an excellent job
in each of the plants we vis
ited,” Bulman said. “We were
able to learn a lot that Adams-
Millis can use very well.”
