Murphy TUBERCULOSIS CONTRIBUTION Some time before Christmas you were asked to express your opinion as to the giving of the Coca-Cola machine money to the Guilford County Sanato rium. 'ITie niajorit}' of you thought it was a fine thing, so a clieck was made out and Mabel Slate of the Overall, Pat Mavros of the Pants, Mildred Rickard, Shirt Departments, Gariand Asbury of the Cutting Room, accompanied by Dale Yoak and China Hedrick presented the check to Dr. M. D. Bonner, Superin tendent of the Sanatorium. In appreciation of the donation, below is a copy of Dr. Bonner’s letter to you: December 29, 1948. Mr. Dale M. Yoak, Personnel Manager, High Point Overall Company, High Point, N. C. Dear Mr. Yoak: 'I'he splendid and generous donation of $601.00 which was pre sented to us by you and your delegation was very greatly appreciated. We are especially proud that this donation comes from so many individuals, and it was certainly a splendid and generous thing for them to do. These folks gave because they wanted to, and they can be proud of a most charitable and generous thing. I certainly hope you^will be able to express to all the employees our sincere appreciation, and a wish for a very healthy and happy New Year from all of us at the Sanatorium. Sincerely yours, M. D. More About People You Know (Continued from Page 3) boast of going swinnning on Christ mas day but that is exactly what Blanche Clark did. She and her hus band and two children visited Mrs. Clark’s mother and sister in Sarasota, I'la., and also Blanche’s brother in St. Petersburg, Fla., on December 24 and 25. ITiey also paid a return visit to the school in St. Augustine where Mrs. Clark received her education. Annie Dunbar used to be employed by H. P. Overall, ^^^e’re glad to have her back with us. The Dungaree Department welcomes two new members: Mrs. Evelyn Kel- lam, city, and Mrs. Zdinka Saunders, formerly of Czechoslovakia. Shirt Department By Ruth Samuels Vickie Fowler and husband, Bill, spent Christmas with Bill’s parents, in Spartanburg, S. C. Mrs. Tracy Brown’s sister, Mrs. Har vey Murphy, of Washington. D. C., spent the past week-end with her. Mrs. Faye Hynes, sister of Lois Stradley, and also a former employee, is the proud mother of a new son, William James, born Monday, Janu ary 5th. Pearl McGee who is out on leave of absence awaiting the arrival of the stork was showered with beautifully wrapped gifts at recess on Tuesday Decem ber 23rd. Betty Jo Jones spent the Christmas week in Connecticut and New York visiting with friends. Ray Hedrick, son of China Hedrick, has returned home after spending quite some time visiting in California. While there he attended the Rose Bowl game. Ruth Pratt paid a visit to friends and relatives in Kentucky during her Christmas holidays. We welcome the following new girls to the Shirt Department: Louise M. Durham, Edna L. Myers, and Malta Bowers. Dora Mae Byerly wishes to take this opportunity to thank the Shirt Depart ment for the kindness shown her dur ing the recent death of her father and also for the beautiful flowers. The Shirt Department had its Christ mas party on Monday, December 22nd at 12:15. Everyone gathered around a float piled high with attractively wrapped packages of every color and size and sang Christmas carols with Mrs. Ollie Hedgecock leading. Frank McCullock, Harold Kearns, and Dale Yoak gave out gifts to everyone present including gifts to China Hedrick, Frank McCullock, Mr. Mehan, Mr. Short, Mr. Yoak, Gray Nelson, Willard Hus sey, Charlie Simpson and Nannie Robinson from the Shirt Department. Every one had lots of fun. We, the Shirt Department wish to thank Mr. Dale Yoak, the committees, and those concerned for the grand Christmas play. It w'as beautifully pre sented and was enjoyed bv all. China Hedrick’s mother, Mrs. Lillie Westmoreland, is confined to her home with the flu. Mrs. Virginia Hubbard was operated on January 5th at the Washington Unit of the Hospital. We wish for her a speedy recovery. Cutting and Shipping Dept. By Louise ^^'ELCIl Mr. E. A. Lockwood took a week end trip to visit his brother, Robert H. Lockwood, who is critically ill in Knoxville, Tenn. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Ingram spent the Christmas holidays in Com merce, Ga., visiting his father and mother. Mr. 'Hiurman Huff and family spent the Christmas holidays in Statesville. N. C., visting his wife’s father and mother. We welcome to the shipping depart ment Richard Wade. Miss Elizabeth Yates, daughter of Mr. Oscar Yates, and Mr. Virgil L. To say the above people were surprised and pleased with their beautiful fine gifts w'ould be putting it mildly. There was a choking in throat, jumping up and down, nervous excited group of win ners. It was a few' moments packed full of suspense and enjoyment for all. The climax of the program came when Mr. Mehan read the official Christmas greeting from Mr. Kirchofer to all members of the ANVIL BRAND family. It was impossible for him to be here in person and through his personal gifts and the announcement: ‘Effective Januar\' 1, 1948, a wage increase of five cents per hour will go into effect for every member of the ANVIL BRAND organization,” it was hoped that a Merty Christmas would be enjoyed by all. A copy of this Christmas letter was given to each one present when the program was over. A special “thank you” is given to members of the general connnittee: Rosa Wilkerson, Azzlea Frith, Louise Welch, Alma Paul, V'allie Boyles, Paul P'rye, Evelyn Witcher, Louise Farring ton, and Dora Mae Byerly, and all committees for their assistance in mak ing the program a success. The Poster Contest was won by Ruth Samuels of Shirt factory.
