3 Laundered Sheets Cover Area or 7 FooHxill Fields * DELIVERY-Truck driver William Webb delivers bundles of soiled linen from the hospital to the laundry building located on Wilkerson Avenue. This soiled linen is received at the top level of the building, then processed, and placed in baskets for pick up. All clean linen is prepared on the lower level of the laundry building where it is picked up by Webb and delivered back to the hospital. FEEDING THE CW(yr£S-Wall ace Davis, laundry worker, places soiled laundry into chutes on the top level of the building. These chutes lead into four 600-pound washer-extractors on the floor below where John Dotson is in the process of removing a wash-load of laundry which is ready to be dryed. IRONING SHEETS-M\ flat work articles (sheets) are pressed and folded in this flat work iron machine (below) which rs manned by Cinderella Lennon (left), Salley McRae (center) and Sarah Barbee. There are two flat work iron machines in the laundry building and each one processes 16 sheets a minute. t It f LABELLING- Laundry worker Mary Stevens labels all soiled laundry which is brought to the building for processing. Prior to labelling, soiled linen is separated and classified into flat work (sheets) or dry work (bath towels, patient gowns, etc.) and weighed. It is then placed in chutes destined for the washing machines. LOADING THE TUMBLER-Eaia\p- m e n t operator Joseph Webb is about to place a wash-load of dry work items into this 400-pound capacity, tumble dryer. All permanent press articles and smallei work loads are placed in a 50-pound steam heated tumbler.. I 4 CHECKING OUT CLEAN LINEN-M\ items that have gone through th6 cleaning process are placed in the clean linen room where they are sorted out according to departments and wards, labelled, wrapr>ed in bundles, weighed and put into baskets for delivery to the hospital. Supervisor Edna Bishop double checks clean linen bundles to make sure they are in order for their short ride back to the hospital.
