Campus News Droncos Voice Sept-ember 1994 Vehicle Hanging Tags % m 7- Debbie Barry(sophomore)"...likes flexibility of being able to use them with more than one vehicle. " by Amey Pickett Beginning this fall, parking permits are now color coded hanging tags. One of the major reasons for the change is convenience. No longer does one have to go through the trouble of getting a temporary sticker for multiple vehicles. Another reason for changing from the old stick- on permits to the hanging permits is because of the many complaints received. Many complained that the old stick-on permits were hard to take off, ruined their defrost, and also ruined the tint on their windows. The new “one person, one permit” policy will eliminate some of the crowding of parking lots. This policy only allows one permit per person; therefore, a student can only park one car on campus at a time. Although the new permits will not allow us- to park closer, they will allow convenience and possibly more parking spaces. pm Captain Willie M. Flanigan ''Great Idea! Eliminates process of having to get a temporary tag for multiple vehicles. " Susan Rivenbark(senior) "...likes them because they aren't stuck on the window of her vehicle." They will provide a second set of eyes and ears for campus se curity as well as serve as liai son for students and faculty who may be ap prehensive about ad dress i n g concerns di rectly to uniformed officers. In a recent interview, Willie Bell, Jr., FSU’s Chief of Po- Chancellor for Business and Fi nance) found a way to finance this very necessary program. Effective September 1, the Stu dent Safety Squad was in effect and accessible to any campus student. One of their major du ties will entail providing escort service for students who use the campus after normal hours. Sim ply dial extension 1341 between the hours of 6:00p.m.-midnight, and a Student Safety Squad rep resentative will be dispatched to escort you to your car, dorm, or other destination on campus. Although the ten volunteers (Chief Bell eventually hopes to expand the Squad to twenty members) will hold paid posi tions and receive some training, it was emphasized that their au- The 1994 Student Safety Squad with Chief Willie Bell, Jr. lice, ex pressed both excitement and re lief that the Student Safety Squad was finally off the ground. “We’ve been trying to get this program implemented for the past three years.” This year Mr. Benson Otovo (Vice thority will not extend to physi cal engagement or intervention of any disturbances they might observe or encounter.
