Fouts had served as executive Vice President for Guilford Technical Community College since 1991. He has 22 years of experience in a variety of positions. Fouts holds an M.A. in English from UNC-Chapel Hill and has ccrrpleted course work beyond the master's at UNC-Chapel Hill, Western Carolina University, and the University of Iowa. At age 47 Fouts has the unenviable taisk of dividing his time among the students of WCC and his own 2 adult children. Fouts' daughter graduated from UNC-Ashville last May, while his son is a freshman at NC State this fall. As Vice President of Academic Affairs Fouts' greatest responsibilities are to assist the president to ensure that instruction al programs and facilities are the best possible. Fouts' major goal is to work towards WCC's having the best instructional prd^rams in North Carolina's cotmrunity college system. Within the next 3 to 5 years Fouts hopes for WCC to have the resources to take advantage of all the technologies available. Fouts strongly supports the idea of WCC's changing its cvirriculum from quarters to semesters. He feels a 16-week semester rather than an 11- week quarter would be an advantage to faculty and students. continued p. 18 George Fonts, nevlj appointed Tice President of kadeiic Affairs, eaters tke .diiaistration office.
