8 WCC CAMPUS VOICE - MAY 1. 2002 Annual Spring Music Concert features band, chorus By JONATHAN TOLER and ASHLEY SCOTT At the annual Spring Music Concert the audience had a surprise as 150 red, white, and blue balloons rained from the catwalk in Moffatt Auditorium at Wayne Community College on Thursday, May 2, 2002, at 7:30 p.m. The balloons were a special effect for the song, “It’s a Wonderful World” which the WCC Chorus was performing. First, the band performed “Crown Imperial,” by William Walton; “Fanfare for the Common Man,” by Aaron Copeland; “Regatta for Winds,” by David Schaffer with guest student conductor Donald Benton; “Sparkling , Flutes” by Richard Comello, “What a Wonderful World,” by George Weiss and Bob Thiele, and “Sinatra in Concert,” by Jerry Nowak. The 3 3-member chorus performed “Ascription of Praise,” by David Schwoebel; “Castle on a Cloud,” from Les ’Miserables which included soloists Robyne Caughron alto, and Matt Bartlett, tenor; “Sanctus and Benedictus,” from St. Cecilia Mass by Charles Gounod which includes soloist Chris Hall, tenor. “The Prayer” by Sager and Foster featured soloists Sarah Edwards, soprano, and Cullen Jarman, tenor; the Chorus continued with “What A Wonderful World,” from Good Morning Vietnam; and “The Lord Bless You and Keep You,” by Peter C. Lutkin. The chorus met twice a week at noon in preparation for the spring concert. Students and faculty who participated in chorus for the spring semester included LaDawn Atkinson, Crystal Audet, Matthew Bartlett, Donald Benton, Robyne Caughron, Phillip Clark, Diane Daniels, Mary Davis, Sarah Evans, Andrea EVans, Angela Floyd, Jason Glisson, Sarah Gregory, Chris Hall, Stephen Hannum, Timothy Heath, Shannon Howell, Cullen Jarmon, T.J. Kriston, Paul Lewis, Rosalyn Lomax, Alan Malpass, Liz Meador, Robert McCotter, Brandon McLawhom, Cammie Montgomery, Mahealani Moore, Jacalyn Shealey, Kristin Shearin, Andrew Smith, and Mary Sutton. Also, Terry Toner, Cleo Trigones, Tim Heath, Donald Benton, Chris Hall, and Tom Casey. Steele Sasser directed the choir. Instrumentalists included Tim Heath and Donald Benton on percussion, Chris Hall on saxaphone, and Jason Glisson on guitar. Tom Casey accompanied the chorus on the piano. Band students who participated in the concert under the direction of Cindy Grant, part-time WCC instructor and director of the Southern Wayne High School Band, included Vicki Ellis, Diana Maier, Patricia Merz, Marshalle Lewis, Alan Malpass, Anthony Price, Scott Sturtz, Donald Benton, Shauna Harris, Judy Lewis, Mona McConnaughey, Ruby Maier, Connie Brady, Charles McDonaough, Howard Newell, Stevie Lewis, Lou Ellen Wilson, Rod Mason, Scott McConnaughey, LaQuint Frasier, Tim Heath, Kevin Palaganas, Aubrey Simmons, and Nancy Seate.
