Page 4, The Cougar &y, December 19, 1975 POETRY CORNER A NEW LIFE Death is just a threshold, A portal through which to traverse To a new hfe in a new time Full of the richness of loving and strife. Our work in this time will end And death will hurry us, Accompanied by the music of the fife, To a new and richer orbit. We’ll not find brightness and light When death walks forever in our mind. Fear of this thing called Death Is only fear of the unknown. What will happen when I die? My soul to dust. No! No! say I, Through the portal, o’er the thres hold Death will gently guide my soul Into the newness, into the light Of a new time, a new life. Eileen Lowe 4 Nov. 1975 A FRAGILE AFFAIR Moment by moment we pass through each other and see into each other as if body and soul were glass and water. We drink from each other and become intoxicated. When the sun beams down, our eyes reflect dreams of rainbows in the sky. When the water is mixed we cannot tell one from the other. But, we are still two separate glasses . . . having two separate lives . . living in two separate' worlds . , . with a foreshadowing of fate to break each other, Mary Belinda Eldreth SACRIFICE As I look at your picture in an old Davie High yearbook I remember how I knew that you were “THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL IN THE WORLD Then (as usual) time passed on (that’s the way it almost always happens - right?) things and people (that’s us) changed and something died. All this because we didn’t know being in love meant having to SACRIFICE. Ervin Waller YOU (For Lack of a Better Title) All my lonely life I’ve dreamed of you* You’re like a fairy tale You’re a wish come true So many times I have tried To let you know I’m glad you’re mine And I want to love you so much Because you’re so very fine In every way you’ve pulled me Through the problems of each day* Why can’t I make you see That you’re my whole life. And you will always be Such an important part of me? Ron Wishon, Poet ^ki CoUe^e BLOWING. ROCK. N. C. STUDENTS LEARN STOPPOWER!
