Fall Semester Outstanding Student
Leadership Awards Presented
On Wednesday, December 9 Wilkes Community College recognized two students,
James Lentz and Angela Nerstheimer, for their outstanding leadership during the fall semes
ter. In order to be nominated for this award, students had to have a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0;
be actively involved in at least one student organization; have planned/coordinated at least 1
activity/event for a student organization; and be planning to be enrolled at WCC during the
1999 spring semester. Nominations were accepted from both club advisors and athletics
coaches and were then reviewed by an awards committee that selected James and Angela to
be the recipients.
James was nominated by Arlene Handy, Lead Instructor for Information Systems/
Programming and advisor for Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP).
Janies is currently serving as president of AITP and is also a member of the Student Govern

AITP, which helped make it possible for the group to attend an AITP conference. In addition
to being a full-time student, James is also employed full-time with Domino’s Pizza.
James is the son of Charlene Clayton and Bill Lentz. He and his wife, Jenny, have one son,
Carson. In May James will be completing an associate’s degree in Information Systems with
a concentration in Programming. After graduating he hopes to work as a programmer. When
asked what he likes most about WCC, James stated, “WCC is one of the best values for the
money. Being a community college the student to faculty ratio is low enough to allow more
personal attention. WCC gave me the opportunity to get an education and work at the same
time.”
Angela was nominated by Joyce Minton, Lead Instructor for the Medical Assisting program
and advisor for the Medical Assisting Club. Angela is president of the Medical Assisting
