Page 4 sl,ooo,oooCampaign Launched; Largest Drive in History of Guilford College New Auditorium To Be Combined With Music Building January, February, and March, the first three months in 1960, mark the beginning of the largest fund-raising campaign in the his tory of Guilford College. Accord ing to President Milner, who re cently spoke to the student body in a chapel program on the sub ject, B. Clyde Shore, a Winston- Salem realtor, and Carl O. Jeff ress, president and general man age of the Greensboro News Com pany, will head two campaigns to raise $1,000,000 for Guilford Col lege buildings. The fund for these two build ings, one for the Greensboro Di vision, has already received one donation or $250,000 from the Dana Foundation in New York City, headed by Charles A. Dana, Sr., an another from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation of Winston- Salem, headed by Richard J. Rey nolds, of SIOO,OOO. A third gift, given recently to the Greensboro Division, was properly valued at $61,000 from Arnold A. Schiff man and Mrs. Harold A. Schiff man. The Religious Education-Audi torium-Music Building will fill a long felt need on the Guilford College campus. It will house the departments of religion and music and will provide facilities for a chapel, assembly, and rooms for dramtic and musical programs. A special room for voice and in strumental practice will assure training of the highest quality for those majoring in music. Included in the plans are a chapel de signed as a typical Friends meet ing room, and a practice room for the Guilford College A Cappella Cho : r, which is known through out the eastern United States for its excellent presentations. The auditorium will seat 1,000 and will make it possible for the first time in more than ten years for the entire Guilford Student body to meet together as a unit. Com pletion of this building is planned for September, 1961. The addition to the existing building occupied by the Greens boro Division of Guilford College at 501 West Washington Street, Greensboro will contain approxi mately 22,000 square feet of space on three floors. The space is this building will be devoted to chem istry, physics, bbiology, psychol ogy, arts and crafts, and mechan ics laboratories. Many courses of instruction that are not now pos sible will thus be added to the curriculum. The Greensboro Di vision is no win its twelfth year of serving the adult citizens of the Greensboro area and its sur rounding communities, providing high school, college, technical, and non-credit liberal arts cours es. More than 1,500 individual students will be enrolled at this unit during the current academic year. Completion of this building is expected by September, 1960. An increase in the enrollment to more than 2 000 students is ex pected within a short time. The two buildings are part of the current Guilford College De velopment Program, begun in 1957, and scheduled to be com pleted in May, 1962, when Guil ford will celebrate 125 years of continuous educational service in North Carolina. o She interrupted the reading of her paper to tell him: "I see there's a fellow who has just patented a contrivance for preventing girls from falling out of rumble seats.
