Page 10 Enter Photo Exhibit nk Not content with its acclaim for unique architec tural design and spacious appointments, The University of Akron's Edwin J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall conti nues to remain in the spotlight, with a national photography exhibition plan ned. The Edwin J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall Associa tion, a civic group formed to support Akron U's new hall and the arts, will sponsor the event. It will be a competitive, juried, photographic exhibi tion to commemorate the country's Bicentennial by joining the photographic art with music, the dance and drama. Entries are invited from photographers nationwide for submission by February, 1976, and exhibition is scheduled for April, 1976, in the 26,000 square feet of the lobbies of the hall. College and university students are particularly welcome to com pete. Substantial prizes will be awarded winners in various categories and the grand "show of show" prize will be a fully paid Caribbean cruise for two. Thomas Hall premiered to gala, black-tie audiences in the fall of 1973. It has since hosted such world-famous artists as the Leningrad Philharmonic, Mar cel Marceau, Goldovsky Opera Company, the Cleveland Orchestra, Victor Borge, Robert Goulet, Count Basie, Fred Waring and his Pennsyl vanians and Duke Ellington. Irving J. Olson, widely known Akron businessman and amateur photographer of renown, is chairman of a blue-ribbon photography com petition committee, charged with finalizing all contest details and the selection of a judging panel. Judges will be Arthur Rothstein, associate editor of Parade Magazine; Arthur Goldsmith, eidtorial director of Popular Photography, and Irving Desfor, Associated Press photo columnist. Olson is the retired chairman of the board of Olson Electronics, but photography has been his avocation for many years and he has collected scores of first prizes, gold and silver medals, and over 300 other prizes. Six foreign study opportun ities in the summer of 1976 are being offered to all college students through the sponsor ing Center for Off Campus Studies at Guilford College in Greensboro. Five are summer schools offered cooperatively by Guilford and UNC-Greens boro. They will be held in Russia, Germany, France, England and Greece. The sixth is the 19th annual Seminars Abroad, a 65-day study/tour covering Paris, Munich, Vienna, Bern, Ven ice, Florence, Rome, Athens, Crete, Istanbul, Moscow, Leningrad, Berlin, Amster dam and London. For additional information on both the summer schools and Seminars Abroad, stud ents or parents may contact Claude C. Shotts at Guilford College in Greensboro. Trips Pre-Professional Trainee - ships in Mental Health Graduating seniors, new graduates, and graduate students are invited to apply for the Full-year Pre-Profes sional Traineeships in Mental Health offered at The Devereux Foundation in suburban Philadelphia, a group of multi-disciplinary residential and day care treatment and rehabilitation centers. Devereux is approved by the APA for doctoral internships in both Clinical and Counseling Psychology and 4>y the LACS as an Accredited Counseling Cen ter. Its Earl D. Bond Branch has received JCAH accredita tion as a Psychiactric Facility for Children and Adolescents. Summer Schools will vary departure from May to early June with returns in late July and early August. Seminars Abroad, which features meetings between American students and stud ents of the various countries, is led by Claude Shotts and Ruth Rothe, a German native who has planned the program for 10 years. Summer schools will be held by faculty members of Guilford and UNC-G. The Russian summer school students will visit Paris, Berlin, Warsaw, Budapest and Vienna in addition to the cities of Leningrad, Moscow, Kiev and Odessa. Treatment Center for emot ionally disturbed youth with severe personal adjustment problems. CAREER HOUSE Trainees serve as Resident Advisor/Counselors. They at tend indicated clinical semi nars and case conferences and receive training and supervis ed experience in supportive counseling and milieu ther apy, crisis intervention, edu cational therapy and tutoring, social rehabilitation and rec reation therapy, and report writing. Trainees, with prior experience, may be assigned to the Adjunctive Therapies Program of expressive media encompassing art, photogra phy, film-making, campus radio and TV studio operation and newsletters. Hedges Trainees serve as Psychiatric Aide/Residence Counselors in a program that focuses on experiental learning through interaction with all facets of the milieu and may include crisis intervention, milieu, and And don't kid yourself because they may have had some black coffee. December 2, 1975 Two courses will be taught-culture and history of Russia from 988 to the present, and language and literature. Teachers are Joa chim Baer of ITNC-G _ and Marth Cooley of Guilford College. The Greek summer school will visit Florence and Rome before arriving in Athens. Several Greek islands will be on the tour/study agenda. Courses will be "The Golden Age of Athens" and Greek drama, taught by John Barrett and Timothy Smith of UNC-G. The summer school in England will visit Paris as well, with British cities including Chichester, London, Stratford and Oxford. recreation therapy and thera peutic education. They write case reports and attend indicated clinical seminars and case conferences. A combined tax extempt stipend and allowance of 5316. per month, housing and meals are provided to qualified applicants who are U.S. citizens, unmarried, and at least 22 years of age. Trainees must have the use of a fully-insured personal auto mobile and should be able to do their own typing. Prefer ence will be given to applicants with a broad academic base of training and demonstrated skills appropri ate to the traineeship who plan to attend graduate school and presently seek a comprehen sive training experience in supportive mental health services.
