Dance in Dana 'Bottom of the Bucket' isn't "Bottom of the Bucket, but. . . " Dance Theater will be presented by the Guilford Col lege Arts Series at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, in Dana Audi torium. Individual tickets may be purchased at the door for $4 for adults and $3 for non-Guilford College students and senior citizens. "Bucket," made up mainly of black dancers, has been called "young and vital" by a Buffalo reviewer who said the troupe has "enough electricity to light up Buffalo streets and homes ofr the rest of the winter." An arts columnist wrote that "Thank You Jesus," one of the group's numbers, "was the finale, and the exuberance of Rescheduled Race "Why is a campus newspaper sponsoring a 10,000 meter race? We hope that this event will be a great time, will bring the community closer together, and will publicize the existence of our struggling staff, that's why." So says Brian Carey, editor of this year's Cuilfordian. "Ac tually we got the idea from one of our workshop sessions with Alfred Hamilton and Van King of the Greensboro Daily News Record." "Read on the Run" has been moved forward one week so as not to be in conflict with the Burger King run that will be held on November 10. "Read on the Run" is scheduled for Saturday, November 17. "Bottom of the Bucket, but. . . " was founded by Garth Fagan, described by the New York Times as a "brilliant choreographer and director" who has "literally worked won ders on several levels." The dance theater is an outgrowth of classes started by Fagan at the Educational Oppor tunities Center in Rochester, N.Y., in the summer of 1970. The handful of young stu dents formed the nucleus of what has become a nationally known company which has per formed at Jacob's Pillow, Ja maica, the eastern United registration forms at the Infor mation Desk in Founders Hall. Entry fee is $3.00 and the deadline for all entries is No vember 13. The exhibition will take place Wednesday, October 31, 1979 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Outer Gallery, Mclver Hall, UNC-G. This collection is brought to the public under the auspices of Mr. James Tucker, Director of the Weatherspoon Art Gallery. Local collectors will have a fine opportunity to view this collection of over 1,000 original prints containing works by Gal lot, Davies, Daumier, Durer, Goltzius, Goya, Rouault, Whist ler, Peterdi, Antreasian, Richard Hunt and many others. Also in the collection will be numerous wood engravings by Henry Wolf which are proofs from the Wolf estate along with a number of Japanese woodcuts from the Ukiyo-E School. Area artists being represented are Laura Grosch and Herb Jack son. States and in Lagos, Nigeria, where it represented the United States at the World Festival of Black Art. "Bucket" celebrates the cul tural heritage of Africa, the West Indies, Mississippi and Harlem and is considered a company that is contemporary in style and unique in its discipline, research and experi mentation in dance. Fagan, an assistant professor of dance at SUNY-Brockport, has studied with Martha Gra ham, Jose Limon, Alvin Ailey, Mary Hinkson, Pearl Primus and Lavinia Williams.
