Octobcx-^ 8AILEY BUGLE Precticed Citizenship Emphosized in real- phase of on is Undertaking to apply citizenship ity, the school is stressing this student life in every way possible. Heretofore, citizenship has been a word the tongue but not one practiced; now it coming into its ov/n in Bailey high school. To put into practice essentials of good citizenship—cooperation, respectfulness, con sideration', loyaiity to school, and numerous small courtesies--is the aim of Bailey school. That continuance of this policy will be gratifying is unquestionable, for every right- minded person will appreciate anything done to make him able to live his life at its fullest. Columbus s Spirit Should Live Discovering a new continent, Columbus landed on the Bahama Islands October 12, 1492. Throughout his voyage to the new,wo.rld, Columbus was the '’shining light in darkness”. Impatient, seasick, and afraid, his crew re peatedly threatened mutiny. Confronted by these problems again and again, the gallant Columbus gave the encouraging command, "On, Sail On I" As war touches all phases, shortages are common. Typewriters, scissors, stencils, paper, geometry and playground equipment, and foods are hard for schools to get. At times the student body and faculty are tempted like Columbus’s men—to give up. This is not the way to meet difficulties; instead the test should be met in the spirit of Columbus, ’’Sail On I * L^ck Of Librarian Requires Cooperetior) Cooperation in the use of the library is going to be necessary this year more than ever since there isn't a full time librarian. Work ing with the teachers by giving proof of cor rect behavior while in the library and by se lecting good books will greatly help. Conaidering required reading, not as a duty but as a priviledgc, will make reading be come a pleasure, a looked for opportunity. The reading of daily papers and period icals available in the library will increase our knowlec'^.ge of world affairs and give us lively subjects for discussion and for themes. The '’T don't know what to talk about” or ”I don’t knov^ anything to v/ritc” will cease to be oor.uTion expressions. IwAU UNCONSCIOUSNESS POINTERS FOU GOOD MANNEKS 1. \miSTLING, in halls bespeaks inconsider ateness . 2. CHEWING GUM in pub lic is not good taste. 3.
