MAY 19^6 Science Continues High In Grominor Grode Interest JPAGIL-IL. > I As the grammar grades ad vance toward the end of the school year, they are reviewing their year's woi'k, participating in class clubs and social ac tivities, and making plans for sightseeing tours. Nearly all the grades are checking on their year's work to find out just how much they have accomplish ed. Some of the grades have continued their science study into the spring se mester. Miss Glee Eatmon's third grader's "most popu lar place" in their room is the science corner. They have made an interest ing study on the Monarch butterfly, PARAKEET "Tinker Bell", the para keet bought to illustrate the science project. Pets, is still an interesting subject in J'Irs. Effie Hag- wood's first grade. Nash Gounty's Conserva tion Service sent a repre sentative to Miss Ida M* Parker's fourth grade to illustrate and explain soil conservation. To show their interest in this sub ject, the students are painting pictures repre senting what conservation means to them, , PRIZE ;-'GIVEN -To. create more interest in their ^science project, Mr's.' T. b. May's class gave a prize for .the best booklet’ made 'on Migration of Birds. June Bennett was the winner, Mrs. J. P. Undervrood's sixth grade has started their spring's nature study of wild flowers and insects. The study of na- tiire was started last fall and is being continued this spring, Mrs, Harvey Evan's eighth grade have spent some time on glass and its history, GRADES FORM CLUBS Several clubs have been organized this year in the grades. The third and fourth graders in Mrs. Oliver P. Barnes's class formed a club called the ^ Bee Club, the purpose of which is to help improve person al appearance and manners. In Miss Parker's fourth graders's club, the class chose two teams, each side trying to get points for his side. Points are given for good deeds done, both at home and at school. Badges are avmrded weekly to the team with the most points. At the first of the year, the Six and A Half Club was organized by members. See TRADES page 18 Do you need a Haircut, Shove, OR Shampoo ?
