October 28,1981 FULL MOON Page 3 I. V. Bulldogs Are Winners The Junior Varsity football team, guided by Coach Larry Fast and Coach David Talbert, continues to build an impressive season. After seven games the Bulldogs have a 4-1 conference record and a 5-2 overall record. The fourth game of the season saw the Bulldogs host the Tigers of Mount Pleasant. Once again, the Bulldog offense racked up the yardage for a total of 485 yards. The final score in this devastat ing game was Albemarle 40, Mount Pleasant 12. To start off the scoring, Ricky Lowder drop ped back and threw a 47 yard scoring pass to end, James Cato. Todd Lilly ran the two point con version. After a superb defensive stand, Albemarle received the ball again. This time Lowder screamed a 31 yard touchdown pass to Chris Brown, making the score 14-0 after the first few minutes of play. The next score for Albemarle came on a 20 yard run by Ricky Lowder. Then Lowder threw a pass to Chris Brown for the two-point con version. The Bulldogs were not finished yet, as they converted to the ground for touchdowns now. Todd Lilly scored from four yards out to make the score even more devastating. The next score was on a one yard run by Ed Crump. The Bulldog defense was again massive, as they held Mount Pleasant to a standstill, until giv ing up two late game touchdowns. The last score of the night was on a one-yard plunge by back-up quarterback, Chris Hartsell. The offense gained 310 yards rushing and 175 yards passing for a re markable night. The next Thursday night Albe marle traveled to Parkwood for a league encounter with the Rebels. As usual, the Bulldogs came away the victor with a 36-14 romp. This game was a little dif ferent because the offense was in the hands of a new quarterback. Chris Hartsell obtained the start ing position as his counterpart. Ricky Lowder, was transferred to the Varsity Squad. As the score reveals, Hartsell had everything under control. The first score came on a one-yard run by “Tah- Tah” Lilly. This was only one of five scores for Lilly; he scored three touchdowns and two con versions. Albemarle struck again, but this time they used the airlanes as Chris Hartsell threw a touchdown pass to Chris Brown that covered twenty yards. Ed Crump ran the two-point conver sion. The third touchdown came on a twenty yard run by, you guessed it, Todd Lilly. Mr. Lilly also ran for the two-point con version. Albemarle’s defense did give up fourteen points, but when you have an offense like theirs, you can afford it. The next Albemarle score was on an excit ing 30 yard run by Todd Lilly. Halfback Ed Crump scored the final touchdown on a twenty-five yard run which ended the scoring for Albemarle. The next game was a tough one for the Bulldogs, as they ex perienced their first conference loss to a powerful Forest Hills team. The final score was Forest Hills 28, Albemarle 0. This game was a battle for first place in the conference. The Bulldogs were not to let this game get them down, as they came roaring back and defeated West Stanly 16-14 in another conference skirmish. Albemarle struck first on a seven yard run by Ed Crump. Crump also ran the two point con version. West Stanly came back and scored but failed at the two point conversion. This made the score 8-6 in favor of Albemarle. The Bulldog offense came back and scored again on a five yard pass from Chris Hartsell to James Cato. Hartsell also ran the two point conversion. West Stanly scored another touchdown to make the score 16-14 in favor of Albemarle. The game came to an exciting close as the West Stanly quarterback dropped back and threw a pass into the end zone with no time left on the clock. It bounced from a West Stanly play er’s hands. The Bulldogs went home with yet another victory under their belts. Up to this point, Albemarle has out scored its op ponents 162-102. Keep it up. Bulldogs! Teachers — Get Pies in the Face ByCAROLHARBERS One of the many brainstorms of the Varsity Cheerleaders this year has been a unique crop of ideas for pep rallies. This year’s pep rallies have been entertain ing, funny, exciting, and com petitive. Featured in the first pep rally for the game against North Stan ly was a contest in which a foot ball player from each class dress ed a girl from his class in his uniform. David Livingston and Beth Efird, who represented the junior class, emerged victorious. Other contestants were Jonathan Hinson and Courtney Bell for the freshmen; Cory Smith and Lisa Smith for the Sophomores; and Wesley Harris and Lorra Green for the seniors. The highlight of the second pep rally for the game against Park- wood was a pie-in-the-face con test. The contestants were Mrs. Maske, Mr. Holcomb, Mrs. Wallace, Ms. Pollard, Mr. Talbert, Mr. Kluttz, and Mr. Frazier. Each of these teachers had a jar with his name on it and the students voted for the teacher of their choice by putting money into the jars. The teacher with the most money in his jar was sup posed to get a pie in the face; but when the whipped cream finally settled, all seven teachers ended up white in the face. The climax of the third pep ral ly for the game against West Stanly was an ice-cream eating contest. Victor McClendon, representing the Junior Varsity football squad, won this easily. Other contestants were: David Wilkins (Varsity football), Debra Wall (Varsity cheerleaders), Lori Brafford (Junior Varsity cheerleaders), Catherine Mont gomery (Student Council), Todd Rogers (Band), Stephanie Pollard (girl’s tennis), and Mr. Johnston (faculty). A traditon at all pep rallies that has been up-dated is the spirit contest. This year the winning class in the spirit contest receives bubble gum thrown to its members and a banner with the name of the winning class is posted in the cafeteria. So far, the Juniors have won twice and the Seniors, once. Along with the featured events and the spirit contests, this year’s pep rallies have included cheers, chants, dances, and plenty of pep.
