It feels great! This is my home away from home. Over the years I have seen our com pany grow stronger year after year. During hard times when the going got tough, the tough got going, and we always sur vived by working together. Here, I have job security and freedom of job ownership. We are truly good people. Happy birthday W&J! Peggy Koonts—When Warren gave me my 10-year ser vice award, I stopped for a moment to think about how in the world I made it 10 years. Ten years which included many times of feeling like W&J Rives was the best company to work for in the world, but also many times of feeling like if 4:30 didn’t hurry up and get here I would scream. I had to think of why I continued working through the bad times, so I was still here to enjoy the good times, and I finally narrowed it down to three things: the people I work for, the people I work with, and all the people in the company. So, to W&J Rives, I say: “Happy 10th Anniversary,” and may we all work together another 10 years. SPECIAL RECOGNITION BY DEBRA INGKAH We’d like to give special recognition to Dale Nichols. Dale is the receptionist in the office. Dale started working at W&J Rives on June 1,1987. She lives in Greensboro with her husband, Steve, and their two children. This will be sent out to clients in the Charlotte area. Dale is very proud of both her children. In Dale’s spare time she enjoys listening to old rock-n-roll music and reading scary books late at night. Dale was surprised by the friendliness of all the people here at W&J Rives. We’d all like to welcome Dale to W&J Rives. BY PEARLIE ALSTON We would like to give special recognition to Denise Staples. Denise is a single needle operator in Dept. 4. She has been with the company 8 Vi years. Denise enjoys her job very much and she also enjoys working with the people in Dept. 4. She likes to needlepoint and do a lot of sewing. Donna is a valued employee. Keep up the good work, Donna. THANKS TO WARREN & JEFF Dept. 2 would like to say a special thank you for everything you do for us. Everyone really enjoyed the picnic, T-shirts, and the 10th anniversary celebration. We hope you enjoyed the dance performed by Suguna Rudrappa’s daughter. This was a special thank you from us in Dept. 2 OPERATOR SECONDS byannashby What is an operator second? A garment graded imperfect due to something done in either the sewing or the handling of the garment, whether it be taking out a seam, cutting the garment accidentally, the garment on the floor or machine, or a repair not properly fixed. Our customers know we will, by the factor of human handling, have a certain amount of operator seconds; therefore, we are allowed to have 2 % operator seconds. The customer is not happy with this, but will allow it. It is when we begin to exceed this amount that we begin to get com plaints. Since our operator seconds are running much too high at this time, we need each of you (operators) to be mindful of this, and help to bring them back in line. These operator seconds are made and eliminated strictly hy you, the operator Do not hesitate to ask for help in repairing garments if you need help, or to have your machine checked if you feel something on your machine is causing you to have to re-sew garments. On many of the fabrics we are sewing at this time, we have needle holes causing a second if we have to take out and re- sew a seam. Please keep your machines clean, needles changed, and ask for any help you need. Thank you, Ann Ashby, Quality Control Manager
