The Country Club of the Crystal Coast ...where friends connect By John Ferguson On January 18, The Country Club of the Crystal Coast conducted its annual meeting. This year, the format of the meeting was much different than previous years in that this years meeting marked a major change for the club. The purpose was to kick off and celebrate our new business model. As you may recall, we have been working through golf course damage associated with last winter s weather, followed by significant damage caused by Hurricane Florence. The financial situation that these two events caused resulted in the purchase of the assets by PKS CC, LLC, and the hiring of Carolinas Golf Group to operate the club. fo.- .* iV Over 200 people came to The Country Club of the Crystal Coast to hear the plans for renovations that will take place over the next few months.—p/?oto by Sandy Hale Since the end of 2018 up to the annual meeting date, the membership had the opportunity to vote for the sale of the club as well as agree to the by-law changes necessary to operate under a new management structure. In addition to the membership participation at the meeting, former members as well as the Pine Knoll Shores town management team were invited to attend. Over 200 people attended the meeting and heard the presentation, which in essence said goodbye to 2018, and hello to 2019—and marked a new start for the club. Over 75% of the voters participated, and there were no votes against either the sale of the club or the by-law changes. What is particularly noteworthy is that this participation level displayed just how important this organization is to the membership, as well as how much they look forward to a new beginning. A key agenda item presented at the meeting was the plan for the changes the new ownership will be implementing. The outlined changes covered the improvements to the golf course, club house, tennis center, and pool house. Each of these facilities will be getting a complete face lift. Artist renderings were provided to show what the club house will look like when finished. In addition, plans for a new pro shop and member lounge were displayed, as well as the floor plan for fhe renovafion of the ballroom, where weddings and other large events will be held. However, with the newly renovated building, the view wiU be even more spectacular through new full length windows. The sale of the club was finalized on January 31, and work on the improvements has already started and is proceeding ahead of schedule. To date, the golf course cleanup is well under way, irrigation improvements on the course have started, and a new roof has been completed on the club house, pool house and golf cart storage facility. The work on the new maintenance building has begun, as has work on the new pro shop and member lounge. Planning for the golf course cart paths, greens replacement and landscaping are in the final stages and should start as soon as the weather warms up a little so the new turf can grow well. The tennis center renovation will start right after the club house is completed. The Board of Directors and new management hope to have the vast majority of work completed by August of this year. Talking to the membership, one observes immediately how excited they are about the many positive changes. In the meantime, the staff is working very hard to continue operations through the significant construction efforts. A membership drive will soon be conducted, which will focus on showing Pine Knoll Shores as well as the surrounding area the value in joining this club. The new owners. Board of Directors and management want to invite folks to participate in this gem of Pine Knoll Shores and the Crystal Coast so they can see for themselves what a great addition to this community it will be.
