Page -2- Corinne Geer, Budget Officer, presented the budget message. The proposed budget is available in the office for your perusal. Budget hearing will be held June 9th at 1:30 p.m. Commissioner Libby reported on the activities of the Planning Board. Grant Roper has had to resign for reasons of health and his replacement on the board will be announced next month. Libby also expressed his appreciation to Bill Ballantine for his service as Building Inspector. Ballantine's resignation is effective later this month. The proposed height regulation that had been sulanitted by the Planning Board was the sub ject of extensive discussion by the Commissioners and it will be reworked by the Town Attorney before action is taken on it. Commissioner Shedd reported that the summer right-of-way mowing program has begun and the mosguito control program will be started before the end of May. He proposed a request for a variance directed to the State Environmental Management Division which would allow controlled discharge of storm waters into the waterway during periods of extreme flooding. This was passed. Commissioner Sotir requested that the proposed new officers Bob Herbst as Chief and Alice Garrison as Assistant Chief be approved. This was done. Commissioner VJhite recommended that the bid of $112,499 for the new fire truck be accepted. This was passed. She also noted that the police are now keeping a record of how many copperheads they had destroyed. There have been 7 this year to date! No rattlers yet but they wouldn't be surprised to find the mate to the one killed on Pine Knoll Boulevard last year. Mayor Hanan announced that there would be a workshop for members of the Town Board, the Community Appearance Commission, representatives of PIKSO and Pine Knoll Associati^ and any interested builders on May 27 at 7:00 p.m. ^ Mayor Hanan recruited several men to help with the Salter Path Road clean-up when he made the appeal at Men's Night. However, his crew also included Maureen Parker who was commended for scrambling up and down into the ditches for the elusive pieces of trash, where the men didn't seem to want to go. Others who assisted were: David Hasulak, Bob Smith, Earl Wade, Jerry Michaels and John Kay. _________ oOo --------- PLANInIING BOARD At its April meeting the Planning Board recommended to the Commissioners the plat for Egret Lake/Pelican Point, Coral Ridge, and Westport Point as well as the ordinances changes for the measurement of heights. Still in progress were a study of means to assure timely completion of contruction, possible ordinances with penalties to control litter from construction sites, trash placed on the right-of-ways, and unnecessary noise levels which disturb adjacent property owners. The next meeting of the Planning Board will be held on June 1st because the Town Hall will be closed on the regular meeting day. oOo _ - COMMUNITY APPEARANCE COMMISSION The Community Appearance Commission presented its annual report to the Board of Commissioners. During the year they set up meetings twice a month in order to be available for study of plans more often, thereby doing their part of cut down on the delay in the approval process which has been a hardship to some persons waiting for permits.
