Published by the Town o f Pine Knoll Shores in the Interest of its Citizens Town Hall 247-4353 June, 2001 Fire and Rescue 911 BUDGET HEARING There will be a budget hearing on June 12, 2001, 2:00 p.m. at the Town Hall to discuss the proposed budget. Citizens are invited to make written or oral comments. This proposed budget, as required by law, will be on display in the office of the Town Clerk during regular business hours from May 8, through June 12, 2001. PUBLIC HEARING There will also be a public hearing before or after the Budget Hearing on the financing of the Wachovia Bank Building. May Board of Commissioners Meeting Commissioner Recognized Commissioner of Planning and Inspections, Carl Heffelfinger, resigned effective May 9, 2001 sighting family health concerns as the deciding factor for his resignation. Mayor Musgrave, on behalf of the Board and Town presented Commissioner Heffelfinger with a silver bowl engraved with dates of service. Volunteers Recognized Mayor Musgrave, on behalf of the Board and Town thanked all the volunteers for their efforts to locate a boy reported missing on Tuesday, April 24 in Atlantic Beach. Pine Knoll Shores Fire, EMS and Police had a large turnout to help search day and night. The child was eventually found in the water under the Oceanana Pier on Saturday, April 28. A memorial service was held on Monday April 30“^, Yard Waste Pidcuo There has been an increasing number of complaints from residents to Town Hall concerning Yard Waste, stating reasons such as unsightliness, material not picked up because it wasn't prepared properly, or material put out and left for an extended period of time. Yard Waste must be placed in a bag, bundle or container and placed curbside for collection. Limbs or other long items must not exceed four (4) feet in length or six (6) inches in diameter or fifty (50) pounds in weight. Limbs must be stacked butt end to the street and placed curbside for collection. Yard Waste collection is the last Tuesday of each month, place material curbside by 7:00 a.m. The Town pays the contractor (Waste Industries) for yard waste collection service on a per hour basis for the actual time required to perform this service. Therefore, we ask that you prepare your yard waste as instructed. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE. If Waste Industries does not pick up your yard waste due to incorrect preparation - The resident is tlien responsible for removing the yard waste and is expected to do so in a timely manner. Residents can dispose of leaves, pine straw, pine cones, grass trimmings and small tree limbs by taking them to the Newport transfer station on Hibbs Road.
