Page Six THE MILL WHISTLE September 28, 1942 Bedspread Mill Born to Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Tol bert a son,, William Kenneth, on Sep tember 3rd. Mother and son are get ting along fine. Pvt. Berean Tolbert spent the week end with his mother, Mrs. Stella Tol bert. Elizabeth Lewis is visiting relatives in Newport News this week. Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Moore and daugh- ter-in-law, Louise, spent the weekend in Burlington. R. H. Pulliam has just informed us of receiving a letter and picture from his son, Randolph (Blue) Pulliam “somewhere in the- war zone”. He seems to be faring fine, as he has gained several pounds. This is the first word from him in about three months. W. D. Tulloch was given a surprise birthday dinner, Sunday, by his chil dren and grandchildren. Mr .and Mrs. Dennis Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Meeks, Mr. and Mrs. Her man Hopper, and Mr. and Mrs. Jonah Mabes were Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. ^ James L. Adams, of Pat terson Street. Mrs. Edna Taylor entertained Misses Gladys and Jean Candiff and Mrs. Hollis Candiff at a birthday dinner, Tuesday evening. Mrs. H. A. Webb was dinner guest of Mrs. Cicei'o Davis, Sunday. Mrs. George Martin spent Saturday in Burlington. Mrs. Walter Fulton is absent from work due to an infected hand. Her many friends wish her a speedy recov ery. Karastan Mill Private Roman Hall has returned to Camp Gordon, Ga., after a seven-day furlough which he spent with his mother and brother. Ben Lee has been transferred from the rug shop to the warehouse. James Craig has accepted a defense job. Fletcher Kemp Turner (seaman first class) stationed at Norfolk, Va., visited his mother, Sunday. Corporal John Cox, of Spray, spent the week with hi-3 parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Cox. He is now stationed at Cockran Field, Macon, Ga. Misses Ruth and Leola Bennett, of . Baltimore, spent the past weekend at home near Leaksville. Sergeant Claude Bennett, who was stationed at Fort Jackson, has been transferred to Headquarters Co., 117th Inf., Benning, Ga. Mis-3 Carmen Nelson and family spent Sunday near Patrick Springs, Va. George E. Fuller of the Shipping De partment, is out with the flu.- Mrs. Maude Jones and her sister. Florence Via, attended the Martinsville Fair, Friday night. Mrs. Levi Phipps was a visitor in town this week. Mrs. Kate Miller, of Burlington, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Richardson, of Leaksville. Mrs. Carnell Webb is spending a few weeks with her husband in- Wilming ton, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. I. T. Stout, of Greens boro, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. B. T. Wilson, of Leaksville. Mrs. Bessie Hankins accompanied her son to Roanoke Sunday to join his com pany there. Mrs. Sam Irving spent a few days in Richmond, Va., visiting her daughter, Mrs. S. E. Adcock, Jf. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Whitten were in Greensboro shopping, Saturday. Raymond Pruitt, of Newport News, visited in town ths week. Mrs. Velma Causey spent the week with her husband in Jonesboro, N. C. The Setters were sorry to hear of the death of the former Margaret Fagge. Miss Sallie Shreve is spending this week in Baltimore, Md., with her sis ter, Pearl. Mrs. P. M. Frith, of Rocky Mount, Va., spent the past weekend with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Frith on Harris Street. Mrs. John Mitchell and Miss Mary Jane Price spent Saturday in Greens boro. Mrs. Virgil Hall has returned to her home on the Stoneville road after spend ing two weeks in the local hospital re cuperating from severe injuries sustain ed when she was thrown from a horse. She is improving satisfactorily. Woolen Mill Miss Igie McGuire is on the sick list. We wish her a quick recovery. Mrs. Aubrey Hambrick and two chil dren, David and Leesona, and Mrs. W. D. Harris are spending a few days in Portsmouth with their husbands. Mrs. Carl Webb is now making her home in Wiimington, in order to be near her husband, who is in officers’ training school at Camp Davis. Mrs. Pearl Kendret and Miss Ruby Sharpe visited Mr. and Mrs. Billy Wil liams, Sunday. • Mrs. Hazel Humphreys spent the weekend with her husband, John Hum phreys, in Reidsville. Mrs. Aubrey Hambrick and children visited her mother, Mrs. Land, in Dan ville, Sunday. George O. Weatherford left for Mar tinsville on September 2l3t, where he will be inducted into the army. His many friends wish him the best of luck. Mrs. James Martin, of Reidsville, was dinner guest of Mrs. Velna Terry, Tues day. Mrs. Tom Watkins is on the sick list. Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Meadows and family were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Williams, Carolina Heights. Mrs. Viola Martin, of Reidsville, was weekend guest of her sister, Mrs. Mary Eanes. Mr. and Mrs. Perry Jones, of Greens boro, visited Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Terry, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Jones and Mrs. Mary Eanes visited Joe Mary, who is a patient in the Danville hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Patterson announce the birth of a daughter. Both mother and baby are doing nicely. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Thomas announce the birth of a daughter, born September 14th. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Dehart announce the birth of a son, born September 13th. Paul Flinchum is at home on a 15- day furlough. Mrs. Ernest Lynch, of Chatham, W’as a weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs. Bern ard Adkins. Mrs. Ruby Sharpe recently spent a . week with her mother, Mrs. Ben Cay- ton, of Madison, N. C. Sheeting Mill We extend sincerest sympathy to Mrs. Huse Hawks, of the Spooler Room, in the death of her husband which oc curred early Friday morning. Mr. Hawks, formerly employed here, had suffered ill health for a number of years but his death was unexpected. He was buried on Sunday. Miss Pauline Willis and Mrs. E. E. Pruitt spent five days with Mrs. Pruitt’s son, Eugene, in Miami, Fla. Henry Weadon left his position with the company this week to join the Navy. Good luck, Henry. Mrs. Odell Barber has returned to work after several weeks’ illness. Mrs. Flota Somers and sister, Agnes Foster, visited Mrs. Griggs, of Kanna polis, N. C., last week. Minnie King attended a church' con ference in Montgomery, Ala., last week; Homer Mabes underwent an operation for appendicitis at Leaksville Hospital last week. Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Yeatts were guests of Edward Gerringer last Sun day at a birthday Sinner in his honor., Jesse Underwood has transferred from second to first shift. Nolan McBride also has transferred from second to first shift. Dillard Shropshire left this week to report for service with Navy. Henry Carver visited friends in Roan oke, Va., last jveend. Robert Biggs left this week to report for service with the Navy. Willie Riddle is absent from' work this week due to sickness. Hope he will be back with us soon. (Continued on Page Eight)
