Insurance Plans Coordinated With Medicare Since July 1 1966, when Medicare went into effect, benefits payable under the Fieldcresfiospitrsurgical insurance plans are coordinated with any benefits pay- ^'^Bas'lSuy ^?Ssons age 65 or over are eligible for Medicare benefits even though th^ly ^tiU be act^ely at work. This affects many employees just prior to their normal retirement date under the Fieldcrest retirement program. In the case of an employee over 65 who is still working, or an employee de pendents who are over 65, the total payments made under the Fieldcrest hospita - Lrgical plans, together with payments under Medicare, wiU not exceed 100 per cent This ^minf that the Fieldcrest insurance plan will pay the balance remaining of thi hospital-surgical bill (up to the limits of the Fieldcrest plan) after the Medicare payments have been applied; but in no case will the payments under Medicare an the Fieldcrest plan exceed the total amount of the bill. An example of how the benefits are handled follows: (Employee over 65 and not retired) Payments by Medicare Hospital expense $300 $260 Doctor’s expense 200 120 Payments by Fieldcrest Plan $40 80 $120 $500 $380 In the case of retired employees and dependents eligible for Medicare and covered by one of the two Fieldcrest plans available to retirees, the Fieldcrest plan pays^75 per cent of the charges not covered by Medicare (up to the limits of the plan). An example of how this works is given below: (Employee retired and eligible lor Medicare) Expenses Payments by Medicare Not Covered by Medicare Payments by Fieldcrest Plan Hospital expense Doctor’s expense $300 200 $260 120 $40 X 75% 80 X 75% $30 60 $500 $380 $120 $90 To avoid any misunderstanding or inconvenience, those who have Questmns should contact their Personnel office or any member of the Industrial Rel^tmns Department, who stand ready to give assistance or provide information con cerning your hospital-surgical insurance at Fieldcrest.
