Gardner, training manager for Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., was one of the speakers at the 1971 National Safe ty Congress and Exposition in Chica go October 25-28. He spoke on the pro gram of the Textile Section on Tues day afternoon, October 26, at the Con rad Hilton Hotel. His topic was “Motivation of Em ployees with Particular Reference to Safety.” He pointed out that safety be havior, like any other behavior, can be explained in terms of the motivation behind it. “Although safety is not usually a need that in itself motivates employees, it can be used as a means by which other more important and compelling needs can be met,” he said. With the Fieldcrest Training Depart ment since 1947, Mr. Gardner is the author of a book, “Safety Training for Supervisors,” published by Addison- Wesley in 1969. Also attending the safety congress was Kenneth R. Baggett, director of safety and workmen’s compensation at Fieldcrest. Mr. Baggett is chairman of the ed ucation and training committee of the Textile Section of the National Safety Council. Day, NOVEMBER 8, 1971
