Products in Fieldcrest’s
American Treasures Collection,
based on designs in the
Smithsonian Institution, were
used in costumes in the play,
“Oh, Penelope” presented for
students in the Eden City
Schools.
The musical, written by Rose
Marie Cooper of Greensboro,
was based on the Edenton Tea
Party and climaxed “Awareness
Week” at the schools. The

fifth and sixth grade students
and focused on the importance of
the American Revolution.
The costumes, in authentic
colonial styles, were designed
and sewn by Petyon Clark,
lecturer in the Department of
Clothing and Textiles in the
School of Home Economics at
the University of North Carolina
at Greensboro and Cynthia
Weavil, the current holder of the
Eieldcrest home economics
scholarship at UNC-G.

The records show that of
NCP”s approximately 650 em
ployees at the end of 1974, 22.8
percent had some sort of handi
cap. During 1974, 15.6 percent of
the new hires in the division
were handicapped people.
Hobie Johnson, four years old,
and David Johnson, 10 months
old, are the children of Mr. and
Mrs. Wayne Johnson. Their
father is employed in the Plant
Service Department at the
Karastan Rug Mill. Their
mother (Dorothy) is secretary to
the plant manager at the
Bedspread Finishing Mill.
Paternal grandparents are
Mr. and Mrs. V. V. Johnson of
Plden. Maternal grandparents
are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wray.
