Anna lives.
Presidential and gubernatorial greetings, television cameras and lots
of well wishers characterized the former Fieldcrest employee’s birthday
celebration.
Known affectionately as “Miss Anna’’ to everyone at Maryfield, she
is able to be up and around and enjoys the many activities at the
nursing home.
Born in Martinsville, Va., in 1872, Miss Anna was the first manager
and hostess of the Fieldcrest Lodge, Fieldale, Va. then owned by
Marshall Field and Company. She was employed by Marshall Field and
Company in 1918 and remained with them for almost 20 years. She has
seven brothers and sisters, all of whom are now deceased.
Miss Anna was asked to what she attributed her long life and ^

“Also, I never see a doctor if I can help it,’’ she said.
She has been a patient at Maryfield, a large nursing honia '“i

“She’s still active, happy and grateful to God for having 9*''^
such a long, happy life,’’ said Sister Mary. ^
Miss Anna’s birthday celebration was a warm, wonderful
times hectic affair with many old friends stopping by to wish h
and bring small tokens of their affection. Miss Anna herself
in stride and enjoyed every minute of it.
