Employees 'Back In School' Bill Little DECEMBER 12, 1977 Iris Gravely A large number of Fieldcrest em ployees in the Eden-Fieldale area are taking advantage of educational courses via UNC-TV and video-cas sette which are produced by N. C. State University and offered through the company. An eight-week course in basic Writing Principles drew 77 employees from all levels of pro duction, clerical personnel and management. The classes, offered via UNC-TV on Mondays at 3 p. m. and 6:30 p. m., began on October 24, and are held both in the General Offices conference room and the AMP Building conference room. Moderators are Jack T. Carter and Milton Rankin, both of the Industrial Relations Department, Compensation and Personnel Plan ning. This non-credit course on how to improve writing is intended for anyone who writes as part of their job and covers such areas as communication theory, effective writing procedures, grammar, punctuation, spelling, use of names, steps in writing a letter, skills in good report writing, and suggestions for clarifying and simplifying reports. College Credit Course In Textiles Four employees are participating in a college credit course, Intro duction to Textiles, through the Textile Off-Campus Televised Education Program (TOTE). Through this sytem, actual class sessions at North Carolina State University School of Textiles are videotaped so that participants not near a college campus may study textile subjects offered by the University and earn credit toward a degree or simply to increase pro ficiency through professional development. One of the main advantages of this program is the flexibility it provides to employees. Since the class sessions are on videocassettes, employees who miss the regular sessions because of conflicts such as production scheduling, travel, illness, etc., may have the opportunity to catch up or to review difficult material. The videocassette of each session remains in the AMP (Continued On Page Six) Herb McConnell
