9^ M Billy Graham *s ‘'My Answer yj :^ i DEAR DR. GRAHAM: Every y I pray that God will make me happy. However, I still am not really happy. What is wrono’-S.O.T. Df.a. WJli_One of ihe great truths of the Bible is that (.' i.i h. ars our prayers. He hears them because he loves If , . i n fact he is much more interested in what is best fo! 'han we are. He has promised, “Call to me and I wfi .ii..swer you and tell you great and unsearchable thin,;s you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3). Look carefully at one passage of the Bible which tells about prayer. “This is the assurance we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us - whatever we ask ~ we know that God has not promised to give us anything we ask, no matter what it is. Instead, he has promised to hear us and give us what we ask him if our request is according to his will, You might for exanqile a.sk God for a million dollars — but if it is not God .s will for you to have this, he would not give it to you. There is a sense in which he would have answered your .rrayer however — he would have answered “no.' Vuui pruj c-r m tnis case might wen i)e iiiouvateo dj I selfish or greedy desires, not a desire for God’s will.] There is another passage about prayer which important. Jesus said to his disciples, “You may ask me] for anything in my name, and I will do it.’’ (John 14:14),' This again is not a blanket promise, saying he will give! us anyhthing we ask. Instead, not that it is spoken tel disciples — those who have believed in Jesus and are! following him as Lord of their lives. They are, in otheil words, seeking Christ’s will, not their own. Also, when! he say , we are to ask “in his name’’ it means more than! just tacking “In Jesus’ name’’ onto the end of ouri prayers. It, means we are trusting him and believing in] him. We pray in faith, knowing that he loves us and he is] able, to answer. Mt.
