NEW ENTERTAINMENT GOES BIG AT “Y.” The first of a series of outdoor en tertainments was successfully staged at the “Y” Friday last and was In the form of a musicle. Secretary Jesse Gray, alias Elder Gobb, alias Low Brow, made his usual hit with his monologue and songs, in troducing a number of original verses set to popular songs which we hope he will have published for they are sure to make a big hit with the singing public. Mrs. J. H. Armbruist, sang a number of songs in an artistic manner, and was well received by the large au dience. A soldier song by Mrs. Walter Scott of the choir of the first Presbyterian church at Charlotte, won hearty ap proval. Private Gates, medical supply depot, although suffering with a severe cold, sang with his usual technique and ex pression. Miss Lavlna Boyer gave a number of dialect stories that gave her ample opportunity to display her ability to mimic a number of characters, and the audience were loathe to see her Secretary Joe Downie states that copies of Charlotte Observer will be on file in the K. of .C. building. He also wants all the boys to know that a new supply of postcards have arrived, which are distributed gratuit ously. “Joe’’ is planning another surprise to be held in the, near future in the ■way of a vaudeville entertainment. He states that he can still use a few more Jong-IiairGd artists who can either sing, play or act.' So all of you spe cialists confer with Stage Manager Secretary Joe Downey and sign up I suppose some of you have noticed Joe polishing up the teffnis and bas ketball courts. He claims that the hot weather is nearly over and with the advent of the cooler days the boys will surely feel the call of the tennis racquet and basketball. You’ve gotta give him credit, Al. J. H. DOWNIE HOLD’S FIRST MASS. On Sunday August 17, Hev. Father Ryan said his first mass as chaplain of Base Hospital at Camp Greene. Con fessions were heard before mass. Father Ayan comes from New York City and has many friends from New York here at Camp Greene. Next Sun day Confessions will be heard at 8:30 and Mass will be at 9:30, Rev. Father Ryan officiating. A very large and enthusiastic au dience of soldiers, patients and Nurses enjoyed the entire program immense- Joe Downie the new secretary is arranging a musical entertainment for next Friday night to beheld at the Base Hospital building, consisting of a quartette and some others altogether making twelve numbers. All are worthy of attention. He also wishes to state that the K. of C. will furnish free post cards to any one who wishes them. The post cards are views of Camp Greene. Call and get cards and write home. NEW POOL TABLE. Mr. Downie received word this morn ing that the new pool table will be placed in the Base Hospital building very s,oon.
