Page Six THE POINTER Friday, December 15, 1939 ORATORICAL SOCIETY HOLDS SESSION (Continued from page 1) ish subject was made serious by the participants in the debate. The S. O. S., as the members prefer to have club called, is to allow people interested in speak ing to participate in forensic activities even if they do fail to make the debating team. The team intends to enter the tournament at Wake Forest Col lege this spring and perhaps go to Bristol, Tennessee for the southeastern meet in April. Of course, the greatest hope of the debaters is to be qualified to go to Chapel Hill and attempt to win the championship again, and thus be in a good spot to make the Aycock cup a High Point trophy permanently. It takes three suc cessive wins of the state cham pionship to win the cup to keep. ■ MERRY CHRISTMAS ART STUDENTS INVITED TO ENTER CONTEST (Continued from page 1) press. According to Coach Simeon, the Black Bison basketeers will hold a basketball clinic, displaying all the rules and fouls of the game. This clinic will be conducted in the same manner as the football clinic was conducted at Albion Minis Stadium earlier in the sea son. The reason for conducting such a clinic will be to explain and familiarize the rules and fouls of basketball to the spectators. Mr. Hackney and Hedrick will probably take charge of the clinic, and all the public will be invited. .MERRY' CHBI.ST.MAS SPORTS TO DATE (Continued from page 5) Graham, Bobby Sappenfield, Hale Hardee, and a host of others will be out there a-grunting and a- groaning for High Point. And indeed it is a regular newspaper. It prints “News For Students” which is “News By Students.” Now this is not merely a claim; it is a fact. It does the job unusually well, too.” Thank you, BETA CLUB JOURNAL, for your words of approval. This is of interest to the stu dents of Senior High School, as they are the subject and work of THE POINTER. May the staff of this paper continue to live up to those high standards.
