He stated that all growing communities are in need of an instrument to share the work of the community and its progress or lack of progress. Cannon stated news is always hard to get and people should be more willing to share their success and their progress. Rotarians were encouraged to aid the newspaper when ever possible with their support. Cannon explained the new format of the paper. Like 90 percent of all newspapers in the country, the Highlights has a new format. The newspaper is five columns wide and thirteen inches deep. This, according to Cannon, is the third major change ex perienced by the newspaper. This format will have wider columns and should be easier to read. We^ Craven Jabberwock The New Bern Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Inc. held its first Jabberwock Contestants workshop “Though the Looking Glass,” on Saturday January 28, in the Cedar Street Recreation Center with Mrs. Harry S. Cotton, presiding. Mrs. Cotton introduced three consultants who discussed Non-traditional Careers. The consultants were introduced as follows: Dr. Hazel J. Brown, a dentist from Greenville, N.C. who defined the roles of the staff in her office. The staff consisted of a dentist, hygienist, chairside Highlights, February 23, 1984, Page 3 assistant, receptionist and business assistant. Dr. Brown mentioned the availability of financial assistance for students selecting dentistry as a career objective. Ms. Regina Whittaker, Industrial Engineer, Naval Air Rework Facility Cherry Point, N.C. discussed her function which includes determining which company obtains the contract for building, repairing and the purchasing of materials.
