«».V. SPORTS West Craven Drops Two By RICHARD D’ELIA The West Craven Eagle baseball team couldn't keep its momentum and lost two games last week. The Eagles were ahead of Farmville Central High 2-0 after four innings of play, but the Jaguars scored four runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to win 9-2. The losing pitcher for the Eagles was William White (0-2). The Eagles also faced New Bern again last week. In their first meeting, the Bears downed the Eagles 3-2 but this time the Bears had a larger margin winning 4-1. Randy Elks (0-2) took the loss # |the Eagles. The Eagles are now 1-4 with only a few games 5re a coastal 3-A Conference opener with the 5-1 Havelock Rams. Kinston Takes Revenge On New Bern By RICHARD D’ELIA Early in the Baseball Season New Bern handed Kinston a 5-1 defeat but Kinston took revenge and whipped New Bern . New Bern stayed above the .500 mark by bouncing back to beat the West Craven Eagles 4-1. The Bears are 3-2 and have Havelock to face before opening the Mid-eastern 4-A conference play. New Bern, not only has a young team but also a new coach this year, so it looks like New Bern will have to use this year to rebuild and try to be a force in conference play next year. ‘‘Garner Sezs” (Gerald Garner is manager of John E. Garris & Son Logging Tournament Softball Team. Garner is an avid softball player and coach.) Garner says last weekend was a big win for John Garris & Son Logging Softball Team. They journeyed down to Jacksonville, N.C. and met head on with The Classics which they defeated 18-3; The Cherry Point All Stars which they defeated 10-8; OT’s Gang which they defeated 9-1 and in the final game of the tournament they defeated Cherry Point All Stars for the second time during the weekend with a score of 5-3. Leading hitters for the John Garris team were Gerald Garner with 10 hits for 14 times at bat; Steve Congelton 9 hits for 13 times at bat; and Milton Jones 9 hits for 14 times at bat. John Garris & Son Logging Team has won 10 and lost 4 during their first games.
