A Vanceboro craven County Public Library Children’s Story Hour To Celebrate National Library Week In celebration of National Library Week (April 8-14) there will be a balloon launchine: at the Vanceboro- Craven County Public Library oi^ednesday, April 4 at 4:00 There will be three large balloons launched from the library that will carry a message. All children preschool-sixth grades are invited to attend the event. Afterwards, the Story Hour boys and girls will go inside of the library to see the six minute movie, “Whistle for Willie." It is an animated version of the children’s book of the same title by Ezra Jack Keats. The movie is about “a little boy named Peter who tries very hard to whistle so he can call his dog. After a great deal of effort he succeeds.” The other movie to be seen will be “Swimmy.” It is a fable about a small fish who is different from his brothers who outwits the great tunas so that all the small fish can stop hiding.” In addition to the films there will be stories. Also, Mary Ann Delamar will talk about some of the books available to check out. Dean Becomes New Commissioner The Lenoir County Board of Commissioners recently named Dr. Preston Emerson to fill the seat vacated by the death of Commissioner Ed Denmark. Dr. Emerson is the present Dean of student affairs at Lenoir Community College. Dr. Emerson was one of three candidates for the office recommended by the Lenoir County Democratic Party’s Executive Committee. The other two candidates were Stanley Roberson, Jr., of Kinston, Rt. 3 and Albert Dr. Preston Emerson Tyson of Kinston, Rt. 7. Dr. Emerson is married to the former Doris Rose Bryan of Vanceboro and they have three children, Karen, Michael and Deane. Birth Announcements Julia and Russell Ipock are proud to announce the birth of a baby girl, Megan Kristen Ipock. Mrs. Ipock is the former Julia Whitford of Vanceboro. 4i9|e4c:|c:|e Mr. and Mrs. Walter • Lee (Buddy) Holliday announce the birth of a son, Brandon Lee, on Sunday, March 26,1984 at the Craven County Hospital. Mrs. Holiday is the former Deborah Buck. Rescue Squad Training: Conducted By Dr. Joyner By DANNY BARROW Squad Reporter Dr. Joyner is one of the staff doctors at Craven Obstetrics and Gynecology, P.A. of New Bern. Dr. Joyner spoke about obstetric emergencies and pediatric care. Emergency Medical Technicians being trained to handle an obstetric emergency, the latest and safest techniques were discussed. Dr. Joyner conducted a very thorough and complete discussion. It was a very fine and excellent presentation. The training was very hejpful^ and additional knowledge to handle an obstetric emergency was gained. Training is scheduled on a monthly basis for the Rescue Squad on any topic that would be very beneficial. All training is scheduled by the Squad’s Captain, Terry Kite. Terry is doing an excellent job of seeing that the squad is receiving all necessary and updated training, which makes it possible for the Vanceboro Rescue Squad to better serve you. West Craven Highlights, March 29, 1984, Page 5 “Lock, Stock And Lipstick” The West Craven Drama Department will present the play “Lock, Stock and Lipstick” at the West Craven High School cafeteria in Vanceboro, N.C., at 8:00 p.m. on April 6th. All seats are $2.00. The public is cordially invited to attend. The play is a three-act comedy written by John Henderson.
