Page 10, West Craven Highlights, May 10, 1984 East Carolina Council Boy Scout Camporee 1984 --I.' :■ . . ... ^ Home away from home for scouts A happy Patrol Leader, Eddie Jordan, after his Patrol’s flag pole stays in air. Break Camp and Head for Home. Blazing Arrow Brings Home Blue Troop 58 of Vanceboro participated last weekend in the East Carolina Council Boy Scout Camporee. Over all camporee participation did not reach the number of boys it usually reaches at this yearly event. A Saturday afternoon highlight was to see three parachute jumpers land on target from their high flying aircraft. The knot tying, tower raising, flag pole raising, and bandage tying kept the scouts busy all day Saturday. Scouts were testing their skills in hopes they would get that coveted award, a blue ribbon. Vanceboro Troop 58 carried 18 boys and leaders to the camporee. Everything went very well according to Scoutmaster Richard Cannon. Those hours were tense hours because each patrol wanted the number of points necessary to claim a Blue Ribbon. At the end of the day. Blazing Arrow under direction of Eddie Jordan’s patrol captured enough points to put them in the blue ribbon bracket, while Crow Patrol under Stacey Patterson had run into difficulty all day but managed to get points enough to qualify for a red ribbon. Those representing the Blazing Patrol were: Eddie Jordan. Allen Thomas, Charlie Lee, Woolard Crain, Bobby Johnson, and Roger Russell, Jr. Those representing Crow Patrol were: Stacey Patterson, Ronnie Wiggins, William Wiggins, Brynn Thomas, Stacey Meadows and Jon Haar. Leaders were Richard Cannon, Scoutmaster; Roger Russell, Sr. and Mike Hodges, Asst! Scoutmasters; Stacy Lee, Jr. Asst. Scoutmaster; Keith Morris and Doug Lee, Leadership Corps. Matt Wiggins, William Wiggins, Sr., and Nelson Lee were in charge of transportation of equipment to and from the camp site.
