Page 4, West Craven Highlights, May 17, 1984 CHURCH /\ Sharing Good News By DOROTHY FILLINGAME The sfood news from the Word of God for this week comes from Rev. 2:25. One of the messages that our Lord sent to the seven Churches in Rev. was this, “But that which ye have already, hold fast till I come.” We must hold fast to our faith in our God and in the saving grace of his son, Jesus Christ. The great thief and robber is surely walking up and down in it, seeking whom he may devour. We must resist him and stand steadfast in the faith. When the going gets hard and the enemy comes against us with his accusations, trying to fill our minds with doubts, remember what our Lord said in his Word. Let us hold fast to our place under his saving blood until He comes. Once, we have walked through the door into the ark of safety, let us be careful and watchful of the enemy of our souls, Satan. He will always be lurking just outside the door with his enticing ways. He will show you the pleasures of the world that can be yours if you’ll come out after them. These things only last for a season, then they are gone. Where are you then? Out of the Ark of safety, out from under the cleansing blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Satan’s final end is destruction and he will knows this is a true fact. He wants to destroy all of us he can. He wants you Christian friend and me. Let us not be defeated by the enemy, but let us hold fast to our • hope of eternal peace and joy with our Lord after these days on this earth are over. Jesus Christ has promised all those who overcome the trials and temptations of this life a heavenly place with Him.There he has said we will eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God; have a crown of life; not to be hurt of the second death. He will let us eat of the hidden manna. A white stone, with a new name written that no man knows except us. We will be given power over nations and the morning star. We will be clothed in white raiment. Jesus said he would not blot our names out of the book of life, but he will confess our names before his Father, and before his angels. Those who hold fast to that which we already have until Jesus comes he will make a pillar in the temple of his God. There we will never more go out. The name of God will be written upon us, and the name of the city of God, the new Jerusalem. The city that Cometh down out of heaven also write upon us his new name. We must not let Satan rob us of our great inheritance. Let us hold on to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Commanded By God's Word By REBA MITCHELL Along the pathway of life, we are commanded to study God's Word. 2 Ti. 2:15. We also find we are to honor our father and mother. Ex. 2:12, Mark 7:10. If we fail in any point to be obedient to God's Word, we will surely miss the blessing. James 2:10, Matt. 7:26. Last Sunday was Mother's Day. We are prone to spend one day of the year thinking of her. She spends 365 days thinking of us. We can be sure we are in all of her prayers. So let's extend Mother's Day When we can't visit, call or write, we can always ask God's blessings for her. Honoring Mother Harken to the words of mother. Open wide a heart of love to her Name her as a special jewel. Only you can fill your place in her life Remember she alone can fill her place in your life In every prayer you pray, remember her Naming her as the first to tell you, God, the Father: Christ, the son, has prepared a place for you. Mother watched as you grew to be the person you are today. Often in the darkness of the night for you. The prayers, the hopes and fears were reaching high. Her joys she shared with you each day. Everything that touched your life touched her heart. Remembering her today and every day brings joy to the heart. Reba Mitchell Mrs. Mike Mills was honored as the youngest mother attending Mother's Day services at Vanceboro United Methodist Church last Sunday. Mrs. Mills was given a certificate representing a gift of $25 to the Methodist Home for Children. Mrs. Jim Brandon and Mrs. Adolph Whitford were honored as the mothers with the most children (four) at the Mother's Day service at the Vanceboro United Methodist Church last Sunday. They were presented certificates also. (Mrs. Whitford not pictured). Wedding Planned Denise Lorraine Hirae of Vanceboro announces her approaching marriage to Cecil Gray Swindell of Stonewall.
