We are Cub Scouts, how do we look? Girl Scout Troop 482 passes in revue. Success it was! Parade, strawberry short cake & ice cream, crafts of all types, barbecue pork and chicken cooked to suit the taste, a big Strawberry Festival/Rescue Day Softball Tournament, and a beauty contest all went to make for a successful day in the history of Vanceboro. The Rescue Squad reported its biggest day ever with over $7000 in profits from the event. Some of the craft booths reported over $400 in profits. As you can readily see these figures really show success was the name of the big event. The events of the weekend were well attended by the area citizens. Thursday night’s WCHS Band/ Choir Concert gave an outstanding performance and proved to be a fine opening event for the festival. On Saturday morning area people lined the street to see the more than 30 units of the Festival Parade pass in revue. Many of the citizens dressed in their finest strawberry outfits and really seemed to enjoy taking part in the annual event. The Craven County Cloggers and the Gospel Singers added much to the Saturday afternoon entertainment. Friday night and Saturday were used for sports and a beauty pageant. There were eight softball teams signed for the tourna ment. The finals were played Saturday with the Senators of Vanceboro going head on with the Vandemere Hawks. The Senators defeated the Hawks to become the first Continued on page 10 Dedication of the Weyerhaeuser Shelter in the Vanceboro Park.
